If the reviews are correct, probably this one, because the outer diameter of the lens/filter these caps are sized for is bigger than the thread size:

Put a UV filter on the front and don't bother with a lens cap. I mean it's not exactly expensive and the (protective) coating on a modern UV filter is probably better than that on your period Elmar front element.

Great idea!
But where I have to screw my yellow filter?
In front of the UV filter or behind?
Are stacking the two filters not too long that they darken the edges?

• If you prefer Leica solutions and you don't like flare, just screw the 12550 lens hood onto the filter and keep the lens cap on the hood.
• If you're  a flare lover 😉 forget the hood and replace the lens cap with another Leica cap the 14268 (pic) that will fit your filter. You must be not only a flare lover but also a plastic lover though since this cap, which was sold with the Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph in the past, is genuinly and vulgarily made of plastic 😄

"If you're  a flare lover 😉" forget the Elmar and his friends just go with glas before WWI.
Your eyes will shine like the sun!

Yes, it could be. There is written "inner diameter", but who knows? It's so cheap, that you can buy both diameters, if you are buying online and just try.

If you are interested, I bought generic silver leica front cap on ebay a few weeks ago and I have the same filter as you have. I can try in the evening how it works together and if it will not be loose, I will give you a link where I bought it.

I don't know the answer, what do even experts like you do if they want to change a screw on filter? If there aren't any instructions on the box I guess you could send the lens to Leica and ask them to swap if for you, but then you'd have the same problem if you wanted to change it back again.

For anybody on the forum who is interested the 14268 cap is 9mm deep (internal) and it has an internal diameter of 42mm.

Thanks for the details. Funny detail this the exact the size of my DIY-Cap.

I think, because of the waiting time in Wetzlar, I will lookout  for one of the 'Pro-Filter-Changing-Worshops' anounced in the WWW.
So I will be fine for the future

Best thing is to measure, of course, though the B&H reviews can give you a good idea. The outer diameter of your lens or filter needs to match the inner diameter of one of these push-on caps. I think an E39 filter (or a lens that takes one) will always have at least a 40mm outer diameter (according to one of the reviews, a 40mm Kaiser push-on cap fits a B+W E39 filter). But you might need 41mm or even 42mm (there are vintage Leica push-on caps for various older lenses with E39 threads that are 'A42'). My Hoya filter with a 43mm thread takes a 45mm push-on Kaiser cap.
