I just found this website on google. The company's name is Kolari Vision.

It seems that they mainly helps people to convert their regular sensor for UV or IR photography.

HOWEVER, their website also shows that they can either :

1. replace the corroded sensor glass: ( for a M-9P will cost approx. $2,000)

https://kolarivision.com/product/leica_m9_repair/

OR SURPRISINGLY,

2. replace the entire sensor with a BRAND NEW LEICA ORIGINAL CCD ID 15 / 16 ??? ( for a M-9P will cost approx. $3,500)

https://kolarivision.com/product/kolari-sensor-replacement-service-for-the-leica-m9-camera/

I'm just curious if this is even real?

Is this company/business "Kolari Vision" legit? I clicked the "About Us" buttons on their website, and apparently they don't have any contents besides the buttons on the webpage...

Can they really provide the brand new ID 15 / 16 sensor?

Does anyone know this company/business?

Kolari has been making wonderful stuff for years now. Need your Sony modded for M lenses? Yes Sir. All 100% legit. No idea if they still do the overpriced M9 mods. BUT! You can get a cheap replacement for 100+ euros on ebay from China these days and do it yourself for your M9.

Yes, they are well-known - they pioneered replacing the corroded cover glass on older sensors. Where they got the CCD ID 15-16  sensors from for the deluxe service (when Leica themselves claim to have run out) is something of a mystery, though. Did Leica sell them the last of their stock? I don't know how much of the tweaking of the original Kodak (now onsemi) sensor happened at Leica, or whether it was done by the upstream supplier. From Kolari's description, it sounds like this is the authentic Leica part. I think some Leica-refurbished M9s with fixed sensors were also sold by Leica after their sensor replacement service was officially discontinued.

I wouldn’t touch that with a barge pole. The M9 has no low pass filter and the surface affected is the IR filter. Either incompetent or scam.

Kolari claims that the CCD 15 and CCD 16 sensors do not need replacement:

"CCD 15 and CCD 16 sensors were produced at the end of the M9 production and finally had the corrosion and acid gel issues addressed directly by Leica. We have never seen any CCD 15 or CCD 16 sensor/sensor glass suffer from either issue, and as such, we have no need to replace the glass with corrosion resistant Schott BG glass."

Does anyone know how to find out what serial numbers are associated with the CCD15 and CCD16 sensors?

I have a M9-P that has no issues with the sensor as of this time. I would like to know how to find out whether this particular camera is equipped with a  #15 or #16 CCD sensor. Many thanks for any information you may have or can direct me to.

You need to email Leica in Germany with the serial number of the camera you are interested in buying and they will tell you if the sensor was replaced with a non-corroding type 15/16 or not.

I had my M9P serviced in 2015 and in 2017 due to the sensor issue.

I got the following today:  Hardware IDs: CCD ID: 15

For the M9 there is a service menu which can be brought up as follows.

Power on

Delete -> up (2x) -> down (4x) -> left (3x) -> right (3x) -> Info

This shows the service menu.

Scroll down and up using the arrow buttons.

Press Set to select an item

Gently press the shutter release to leave item.

Press Info again for the menu

Good luck on your sensor!
