chris7273 Posted May 22, 2024 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) First time for me : my 128 Gb SD card (Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC V30 200MB/s) was defective. It was no more recognised by the M11 (and PC and Ipad). Hopefully I managed to recover the images with the Photorec app. I have then reformatted the card with SD card Formatter. But now I wonder if it's safe to use this card again : is there a higher risk of failure with a "once" faulty card ? Thank you

JNK100 Posted May 22, 2024 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2024 I wouldn't trust this card in the future Chris. My view is it wouldn't be worth the risk. Best Jeff
n8fire Posted May 22, 2024 Share #3 Posted May 22, 2024 I had a card my M11-P stopped recognizing but it was still working on my Mac. I did a low level format using the disk utility in MacOS and no issues since but your problem seems different and I agree that i wouldn't trust that card (or at minimum save to both internal memory and card if you want to give it another go).
LocalHero1953 Posted May 22, 2024 Share #4 Posted May 22, 2024 I have the same approach as for floppy disks. Never give an error message a second chance. It's my opportunity to hone my throwing skills: can I drop it in the wpb from the other side of the room. 1

Did you delete files from the card using a computer? Did you format the card in the Mac? are the contacts on the card clean?

I used a laptop (windows) with the program from : SD Memory Card Formatter for Windows/Mac | SD Association (sdcard.org) The contacts are clean. I am not keen to use this card again...

Thank you Memory is stored by switching on and off cells, an old memory does not keep enough charge to work properly. If the SD card is old, I would get a new one. There is software that can help maintain and recover sectors. Spinrite from GRC is used by many recovery companies as a first step.

Spindrift Posted May 23, 2024 Share #11 Posted May 23, 2024 Is there some sort of guarantee on the card where they will replace it?
KFo Posted May 23, 2024 Share #12 Posted May 23, 2024 Just throw it away. I have had few card issues over the years, but any indication that a card doesn't want to perform sends it to the trash. Come on, they are like $60. I never mess around with SD formater, deleting files, etc on the iMac. Always have the camera format the card when I put it back in. Never an issue.
