The Acela is not limited by inferior roadbed. It’s limited by traffic. Freight trains can’t do those speeds. The Acela reaches 150 mph where it can. Good idea but freight rules the road in the United States just based on size of the country.

I was on the opposite platform with my Q2 Stu...   these Shinkansen trains are impressive looking - and wonderful tot travel on.
