The Fotos app shows an update is available for firmware version 2.0.3, but the Leica firmware download page on the website still shows 2.0.1. Is the Fotos app always ahead on updates?

I'd like to download to an SD card and update that way so I'll wait for the download page to be updated.

Update LUF Admin:

Improvements

  • Camera won't start up after a battery change.
  • Camera won't start up if the startup process was previously interrupted by a switch-off of the camera.
  • Bugfixes in the firmware

» Download Leica Q3 Firmware V 2.0.3

Yes, in the past the firmware update was found in the FOTOS app first before it was rollout to the website.

I just updated it via FOTOS app. It was fast and without any issues. No concerns about doing it via the FOTOS app. (Using an old iPhone 11.)

I was annoyed to discover the FW update resets the image number. There is no way to specify where you want it to start, is there?

EDIT: I ended up getting it back on track using advice in another post from Jaapv.

Just went thru the update process apparently without any major issues (phew).  My camera does not appear to have reset the counting scheme.  Double phew???  I did not reformat the sd card prior to using the ios fotos app to perform the update.  After firmware update image count continued sequentially starting with the number of last image taken prior to update +1.  Seems like it is all copathetic.  Did I do something wrong?  I did save the profiles prior to starting.

Only unnerving part, at least for me, was when the data was being transferred from phone to q3, towards the end, when it appeared the new firmware had finished transferring, the iphone started to display something along the lines of "data transfer was not successful" "try again".  I disregarded the warning.  Specially, I was committed.  The q3 was acting like everything is fine and proceeded to install the firmware.  Which went on without a hitch.

Despite saying I would wait and update via an SD card I decided to live life on the edge and update using Fotos.

It was simple, fast (around two minutes) and successful. The file numbering didn't get reset either which was great.

Not sure what has changed. The firmware notes on Fotos stated various bug fixes.

I - being the inpatient type - updated via the app before reading any posts regarding image count and yes it did reset for me. It also resets all function buttons back to factory settings which is also a pain in the butt.

Could you point me to the advice Jaapv posted or is it too late now?

I had the same experience with an false error message. Then everything ok except the profiles which I have exported and imported , then they appeared in the settings but were non functioning. I had to reset them .

It is odd that for some, me included, the image counter remained intact and for others it has reset to zero.  I didn't do anything other than save the profiles when prompted and let the install do its things. I thought I might get a prompt to turn the camera off and on again but it restarted automatically after a few seconds with a blank screen and then did the normal new camera start-up to set the language and time/timezone.  I restored the profiles and it is as it was before doing the update.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I suppose it’s lesson learnt with this one. It’s a bit annoying, but so far it’s the only complaint I have with the Q3 and Leica in general, just going to have to be patient next time and let others guinea pig the updates first.

Patience is not a virtue that I possess either 🙂 I woke up this morning and immediately thought that I had to do the update, even though I had decided last night to wait.

Just did the update via de FOTOs app. I also got the error message on completion of the transfer stage and canceled the retry option. After that the camera installed the firmware and started up with the date and time set menu. The firmware version in the camera is reported as 2.0.3, as it should; however, the app still shows that a firmware update is available. After closing and re-opening the app the firmware notice is gone.

After restoring the profiles one glitch occurred immediately: the info bars were shown, while I had them switched off in the profiles. I had to switch off the info bars for shooting and playback mode and save the profile. To be done for each profile, not fun, but not a big deal either. So far, so good.

I hadn't initially noticed but I too have the info bars back so have resaved all my profiles.  A small annoyance in an otherwise smooth update.

@Sharpshooter you can do two things next time:

1) before updating take a foto with the lens cap on or something trivial you don't mind loosing. update the firmware. take a picture and look if your count has reset or not.

if 1) doesn't work you can try this:

2) copy the last image you took with your Q3 from your PC onto the SD card of the Q3 and take another picture. The image count will continue

Can anyone point me to a description of what this new firmware actually does?

It's in the release notes on Leicas Webiste. Haven't you received an email? It's all explained there.

I just received the email a few minutes ago. The download link takes you to the 2.0.3 FW, but I can't see the Release Notes (there are two downloads for the Quick Start guide however ! )

https://leica-camera.com/en-GB/photography/cameras/q/q3-black/downloads?utm_source=CRM&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20240514_HQ_UK_FWUNL_Q3_serv&utm_term=https%3A//leica-camera.com/q3-technical-specs-firmware.#firmware

Do you have a better link to the Release Notes?

Thanks, must be due to Brexit ;)

The Fotos App gives the same level of detail.
