Flash, or Visoflex? I can go without flash, but a tilting Visoflex could come in handy. Panasonic also has a cool hotshoe-mounted microphone connector, but it would be huge on this tiny camera.

Definitely no flash. The electronic shutter will cause banding. 
Where do you attach an external EVF? There should be an electronic contact somewhere between the camera and the external device, unless you connect it via cable.

My Sigma FPL has an electronic shutter and no banding so far. No hotshoe either. It has accessories for flash connection but i have not tried them yet. As for the accessory EVF it attaches on a side of the camera. Ugly result if you asked me but handy.

I meant "what electronic contacts would you want?"

Flash is out because of the electronic shutter, so all I can think of are a Visoflex, or an XLR adapter for microphones.  Either one would be nice, but it's an entry-level camera so they aren't expected.

Advertisement (gone after registration)

As someone who owns a Ricoh GR III and IIIx and a Sony ZV-1 II, I'm thinking of selling all those cameras and just getting the funky new Lumix. Somehow it seems like exactly what I want. It's like they read my mind!

Already got an Fp, so apart from ibis can’t see any reason to buy this.
Since the 26mm is MF, why not put a distance scale on it?
I’ve got the 14-24 and 20-60 pannies, so the 18-40 doesn’t interest me either.
All in all, meh…

Not - those are aimed at the status-luxury market, like these are aimed at a fashion-conscious Influencer market.  However Leica will not do so at the initial launch of the camera.

Many people on this forum are already "fully kitted-out," so a new entry-level digicam won't interest them.

The S9 still benefits us indirectly. L-mount has by far the widest variety of camera bodies, from entry-level chic, to prestige high-res, to cinema (in several flavours), to drones, to box cameras. Compare and contrast to Canon/Nikon/Sony who each offer one basic shape and add/remove features in order to hit each price segment.

Fully kitted-out is a nice way to say oversaturated 😉

The S9 is probably the most interesting camera release in years (for me). Why is that?

I use Leica film M cameras and lenses for my "proper" photography. For me, nothing beats film, in colour and B&W. But I also own an SL2-S. This is an excellent, timeless digital camera. It's pro-grade and made to withstand any abuse that may occur in the rough environments of professional photography. However, despite having arguably the best sensor regarding sensitivity and fidelity money can buy, I can't align myself with the results, no matter what. And that is true for any digital camera. But I need weekly a digital camera to scan my negs, and I need it for journalistic projects that happen a few times a year. I also need a camera for occasional little videos that I shoot without a crew. 

Basically, The SL2-S is over the top. It's too expensive for scanning, too heavy for my little assignments when travelling, too everything. And I dislike EVFs so much that I could just as well shoot with a flippy screen on the same level of annoyance. 

The S9 seems to tick many boxes. It's in the same ballpark as my Ms size-wise when you combine it with a Sigma 35mm Contemporary lens. The sensor is basically the same as in the SL2-S, which is comforting (the high sensitivity is highly useful). For its size, it's a video monster. The stabilising is insane, making a gimble obsolete for what I do. Sound is no concern for me; I use Tentacles. 

The only question I have is: Will there be a similar sister, Leica?

Not long ago, they released a 100mm macro lens when there was already the, by all accounts excellent, Sigma 105mm macro. Now they have an fp-esque device, arguably for vloggers. OK, you can argue over the detailed specs, but is the L-mount alliance one of collaboration, or competition for its own sake? Where does tha balance lie?

To some degree, I agree. But not when it comes to the Pana 100 vs Sigma 105 macros. The latter is optically outstanding, but it is long-ish and it’s AF is truly pedestrian; it is essentially a manual focus lens. The former is small and it has an impressively fast AF mechanism; it is a type of all-singing-all-dancing lens with macro capabilities.
