Popular Post fotografr Posted April 28, 2024 Popular Post Share #1 Posted April 28, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a young woman I photographed for an interview for local publication. For about 15 years I worked with a writer who published a column called, "Listening In," in which he interviewed all kinds of people in our town. Some were well-known, powerful politicians and business leaders, some were just ordinary people with interesting stories, some were just passing through. The writer's name was George Vukelich, known locally and affectionately as Papa Hambone, and he could find something about virtually anyone that was worth writing about. Many of his interviews are archived here. I once got the opportunity to turn my camera on him (2nd photo below) when he was interviewed about his long running column. He died the night before his 68th birthday and remains one of my all-time favorite people from my working days in photography. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Hi fotografr, Take a look here Julie. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pcgarner Posted April 28, 2024 Share #2 Posted April 28, 2024 Both subjects brim with immense intelligence. I'd hate to have an argument with Julie, knowing I'd be whipped -- and GV looks as if he sees it all. Nice.
stuny Posted April 29, 2024 Share #3 Posted April 29, 2024 Both are lovely, but Papa Hambone is really special.

George wasn't comfortable being photographed and it was showing. This was literally the last frame on the roll when he finally loosened up.
Louis Posted April 29, 2024 Share #5 Posted April 29, 2024 Somehow I missed this post! I very much like both, but I think the expression of George bring something essential to the second portrait.
bcorton Posted May 1, 2024 Share #6 Posted May 1, 2024 Very nice. The portrait of Papa Hambone is quite engaging; of Julie, arresting.
