Ha! Just bought the old/current version a couple months ago. Honestly it's not spectacular so maybe an update is due.

My Leica 24-70/2.8 is excellent, I prefer it to the 24-90.

Interesting, I had the 24-70mm DG DN (which is more or less the same than the Leica 24-70mm optically from what I've read) and the 24-90mm. I prefered the 24-90mm, the textures, sharpness and local contrast was better, hard to describe but I think it has more depth.
In the end, I only kept the S Pro 24-70mm because it has exactly the same drawing than the 24-90mm, but my S Pro is even sharper than the 24-90mm I had, and of course, it is f2.8 constant.
I wonder if Leica has changed something else than the build quality on the "rebadged" Sigma 24-70mm.

It had better be an internal zoom, and then trickle down to Leica land… Seriously I don’t understand why in this day and age Sigma (and Leica) still produce zoom lenses with external zooming. I refuse to touch the 24-70 and 24-90 for that reason alone.

I assume because they are more compact ?
