The rest is speculation. We have no indication that SL3-S will be announced at all. Leica has not hinted at launching a lower MP/faster readout version of an SL3.

robb Posted July 22, 2024 Share #63 Posted July 22, 2024 needs to Better than sl2-s Faster readout but I’d also take a global shutter. Always take Faster autofocus. sl3 cannot replace sl2-s for video / cine for me and sl2 is also so good so I wait. Robb

Matvertiser Posted August 22, 2024 Share #65 Posted August 22, 2024 (edited) I actually use the sl2-s for video work. It might not be the most streamlined solution, but I doubt there is one. If you like FF in video (like I do), a Leica Sl2-s is a possible solution. What I like: the Sl2-s produces great files (I mostly shoot 25p/10bit/4:2:2/FF/400Mbps in LLog) that are fantastic to grade. I don´t think, you need RAW, even if you are a very brutal colorist, unless you operate with different systems (e.g. with an Arri or Red or a drone). If you keep the workflow clean (whitebalance at every scene), grading is easy. It has a couple of nice things: two 3.5mm plugs for recording and monitoring, focus peaking, shutter angle, T-stops etc), that makes it nice to operate, if you come from the video side. Rigging it is a bit of an adventure, but it is with every system. Many people complain about AF speed, but honestly, in a professional environment that does not really matter much, as you pull focus manually. And they finally brought out a phantom battery! What I would love to have in an SL3-s: I would love, if Leica would continue down the same road and just improve on what they already did. I would like to see 50 (60 for the people from the other world) frames without a crop. I would like to see no crop on 25p. NO CROP. That would require a faster processor. 6K FF would be great. I would like improved interoperability with other devices such as gimbals (like DJI and Sony or like a Nija). Maybe a flip screen (to the side and tiltable, that is how video people like it). I would like a dedicated ISO dial (a proper wheel) - yes I know, you can do that already, but I would like an extra wheel for it. They should try to make the best sensor cooling possible. Timecode would be a must have. I guess other than that I am really happy. Edited August 22, 2024 by Matvertiser
