Sell Q2, buy SL3 + zoom?

Like many people here, I moved from "all tech" (Sony) to "mid Tech" (Fuji) to the Q2. Loved and still love the camera. But the Leica bug bit, and I now have an M10 with a 35mm Summilux FLE and a couple of nice Voigtlander lenses (50mm APO Panther and 21mm Color Skopar).

The Q2 in a sense fulfills the need for autofocus, but I now find myself wanting more flexibility--and especially some longer focal lengths.

So I'm thinking of selling my Q2 as a down payment on an SL3, probably starting with a Sigma Art zoom.

My concern is that I have a good bit invested in the Q2: not just the camera, but Arte di Mano half case and strap, extra battery, etc. 

Has anyone here made a similar move? Does it make sense? All wisdom much appreciated!

Back when I had a Q2, I thought of doing this. What stopped me was the huge increase in size and weight. Just put it into Camera Size Comparison and see what it looks like. 

In the end, I sold the Q2 to go all-M!

I agree. Tough choice. There is a significant size penalty. I am enjoying the SL3 with the tiny Sigma DG DN i series primes. But they're still not my Q2 or Q3. I don't know if I'd give up my Q either, although I use the Sl system much more.

As you're in the US I'd be hitting up Len Rentals for a weeks rental. While I highly recommend the SL3, the experience is so different I'd recommend you try before you buy.

Is your extra battery the newer one so you can keep it?

I would keep your q2

find a dif way to an sl3 if you need that.  I find sl2 with Q2 fantastic combo.

I have a Q2 and SL2-S and I'm happy with both of them.  I have considered upgrading but would take a serious hit selling them to get  newer models.  When the add-on things like batteries and cases are considered it seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth at this time.  If my gear was older it would be a different story, but it's all less then 2 years old.  Eventually I probably will take the plunge if I feel there is a need for it.

+1 on having both, I would hate to chose between them (portability vs flexibility). If your budget allows it then go for an extra SL3 and keep the Q2. Neither will replace the other.
If you need to economize, I think that a used SL2/SL2-S or even SL system can be a great companion for a Q2.

I agree with everyone else; if you sell the Q now, you'll only buy another sometime later so in the long run it will cost you more money (have done this myself).

It matches with the SL range very well as others have said, I frequently pack both for all manner of events.

So I would suggest, you just need to bite the bullet and fund whichever new camera you've set your heart on a different way.

If you want (need) autofocus then Q2 (or 3) plus SL2 (or 3) with SL 75mm APO makes a perfect combination.  

And if you go for the 3 of both cameras, the ability to crop a 60 mpx sensor increase the usable range.

If you plan on investing in L-mount lenses, Panasonic S5ii/S5iix have a nice form factor and work quite well. And they're quite affordable.

If getting the Pana second hand, it can be a good starting point to invest in APO glasses, and later selling the Pana to get in SL line-up without loosing too much money.

The sigma 65mm f2 is super good, and we're seeing good reviews of the new sigma 50mm f1.2. and the 75 APO is also a good reference. All three lenses  would get along very well with a Q2.

Used SL2’s are quite inexpensive by comparison now, and if you are happy with the Q2, the SL2 has the same sensor and same interface and same batteries.  It is a better pairing than the SL3 if you keep both. They compliment each other well.

I have a Q2M but wanted a color interchangeable lens Leica, and found a mint SL2-S which I love. Also found a mint LUMIX 16-35mm S-pro lens that is fantastic.so I’m keeping the Q,too, for B&W urban photography and the Sl2-S for long reach architecture and landscape. I thinking think the SL3 has a few kinks to work out, and is pricey compared to all the well kept used Sl2’s out there. Good luck.
