Zeno Posted April 8, 2024 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I used to have a Sony RX 1, for which I bought an EVF separately. It sat in the middle of the camera and was therefore easy to use. With my new Leica Q3, the viewfinder still irritates me. As it is flush with the fold-out monitor, my nose always bumps into the monitor and leaves marks. But I don't just have a problem with my nose on the monitor, because I've already noticed that I have to hold my hand next to the viewfinder in bright sunlight to be able to see details clearly. I have already searched the Internet, but have not found an eyecup that can be attached to the camera's own viewfinder. Does anyone have any ideas? David Wien Posted April 8, 2024 Share #2 Posted April 8, 2024 It seems you may be looking with your left eye. Using my right eye there is no contact with the monitor and I can place the eye closer, such that the sunlight problem can be minimised. I don't know about the OP, but due to diabetic complications right now my right eye is useless. But I have been able to use my Q2 with my left, so it can be done. And this is something that is not just a Leica issue...I have a few left eye dominant customer with Canon/Nikon/Sony/Fiji who complain about nose smudges on their LCD screens. I've just lived with that fact for a long time and accepted it. Have had to disable touch screen commands on the LCD and carry a micro-fiber towel to clean the smudges from the Q3. And.... try to make sure the outside of my nose is as clean as possible! 😁 Bob Edited April 9, 2024 by BobsFirstLeica
newtoleica Posted April 9, 2024 Share #6 Posted April 9, 2024 Very dominant L eye as well. You just live with it. I also had a RX1R and II - the Q2 and 3 are far better cameras in all other respects. for the bright light issue, just tilt your head and bury the finder deeper into your eye socket. If you wear glasses, this could be painful. 😉

Eight years ago the rx1rii was a fantastic tool and much lighter than the Q. It’s a pity that the iii never came. So I now switched to Q3. Great pleasure, beautiful output in raw but bigger and heavier at the end of the day.
Casey Jefferson Posted April 9, 2024 Share #9 Posted April 9, 2024 I'm left eye dominant but trained myself to see with my right eye. After a year or so, I'm a convert now, feels unnatural seeing the EVF with my left eye...
jaapv Posted April 9, 2024 Share #10 Posted April 9, 2024 I once read the recommendation to use the camera upside down and release with the left thumb. 1

Cool. 😂 Maybe it will work for me if I try more often with the right eye. At the moment I'm always bumping into the camera with my glasses. There are probably design reasons why the finder doesn't protrude beyond the monitor. I bought an EVF with the RX 1 (1st version) and it was great for taking photos. The picture shows what it looked like (sorry for the dust). Welcome, dear visitor!
