I'd be surprised if the M12 doesn't sport IBIS, whether we like it or not.

I've taken some of my favourite shots at night in fog, handheld, with my Ricoh GR3. I can keep the ISO low, the shutter speed can go down to 1/4 of a second, and the image stabiliser renders the picture pin sharp, with lovely smooth tonality.

At night, if I want to use my M11, I have to meet the twin requirements of both high ISO, and high shutter speed if I want to handhold the camera. Even with the lens set to 1.4. There's no avoiding noisy images straight out of the camera.

I reckon the benefits of IBIS would outweigh the disadvantages - it would be easy for Leica to sell it as a feature.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Leica doesn’t add IBIS to M12.  I am not opposed to IBIS (I have the Fuji cameras that have IBIS), but I don’t want Leica to increase the size of the M12 just to add IBIS.  Personally, when I got the Canon A1 in the late 70’s, I thought it had all the bells and whistles I ever needed to take photos-more than what I needed.  What I often found is that technology gets in the way of great photo taking.  I want Leica to keep things basic and simple.  My M11P and M10M take great pictures while not having all the bells and whistles of my Q3 - I often get lazy using the Q3.  BTW, even the. Q3 doesn’t have IBIS (It has OIS in the lens).  They couldn’t fit it into the camera, and it’s already fatter than my M cameras.  Just my perspective on this.

Thinking more about Special Limited Edition models, one way to gain even more sales would be to split the offerings, say one in Black paint and another in Black Chrome/and or Chrome and price according to the volume. Say Black Paint is made in a few copies and at a high price and the later Black Chrome in nearly unlimited quantities and at a much lower price, thereby satisfying all pocket books.

The SR is perhaps just the starting point in this approach which Leica is trying to fine tune for their 2024 and 2025 anniversary editions. Who knows.

Agree. I doubt very much that Leica would ever increase the size of the M now they've slimmed it down. I'm sure they're beavering away right now, finding a way to squeeze IBIS into the current body shape.

The dream would be a bare-bones digital M, IBIS, simple interface, and the same dimensions as an M3. So the same width, and just two or three millimetres shorter than it is now. Imagine it available with either the option of a 0.72 or 0.91 viewfinder, silver chrome or black paint, and utterly reliable from day one. Maybe even a return of the fresnel window on the front. That would be nice.

But with IBIS it would need a battery!

All I want is an EVF version of M, the visoflex 2 broken 6 times in 2 years on my M11. I have M11-P with 256GB memory which is an overkill at least for me, the transmission speed is quite slow, and the connection sometimes just randomly drops out. 64GB is more than enough in case you forget your SD card

Charging port to the side, please!

more internal memory - enjoying life without a card

21mm frame lines and built in adjustable diopter - but probably moving beyond what an M stands for  + im sure they make too much from   accessories :)

a 50% reduction in the price of a new body 😉

Oh, now you've gone and done it!

Were you not aware that Leica translate which is used in Wetzlar translates "reduction" in English to "zunahme" in German??  😳

Am I the only one not wanting anything, except so that all bugs for everyone are fixed? :D I am honestly not sure what this camera could do you better. Better low light maybe for those night shots, but other than that...

Pretty sure there will not be Ibis. Maybe they would think to release EVF version, but do i really want that? Probably not.

Forget the data-reduced shooting options that none of the M11 photographers I know use.
I was surprised to see that this outdated sensor layout was still installed in the SL-3.

Well, speak for yourself.  I am glad that we have the pixel binning option available.  It gives one a slighter higher DR and saves you the disk space in case you need it.  I also like the in-camera cropping option - I use it every time I shoot at least a few times.

I agree with you 100%.  For those of you who are clamoring for EVF and IBIS, there are other fine cameras out in the market that you can purchase now with those features.  Most of them won’t cost the same amount of $$$ as Leica.  I got my Leica M because of current features that I cannot get in other cameras.  I am sure Leica is fully aware of this.  BTW, I checked out the new Nikon Zf, and I have to say if I wanted the camera with IBIS, EVF, Confirmation, etc. etc., this would have been the camera I bought instead of Leica, and it only cost $2000 and you can use all your M lenses using the adapter.  Many lens companies including Voigtlander is now producing the Z-mount lenses as well.

"Those of us" have perhaps a bit more experience than you seem to believe, especially M lens users. To them, at least to me, no camera can compete with a digital M as far as image quality.

I'm not debating the quality of M cameras or lenses. They are superb, but my experience has shown that you can still create great pictures using other cameras. Some Leica owners are smug, but let's not get too arrogant here. I have taken great pictures of Nikon and Canon cameras.  I started when we were still taking B&W films and developing them in my darkroom.  So, I don't know how much experience you have, but let's not make gross assumptions here.

Thanks for sharing.  I won't share my age, but let's say I started with a Yashica TL Electro 35 mm SLR . . .  That seems like eons ago.  Again, I love my Leica M and its lenses and won't substitute it for anything else.

Image wise all modern cameras can give you amazing picture quality, lenses is a different story. I wouldn't say Leica has anything spectacular sensor wise. It is a good sensor, but is it out of this world? No. But M package in general - range viewfinder, build quality, user exeprience, menu simplicity (or rather zero need for going in there) is what makes M stand out. And this is what I love M for, M is for ME.
