Maybe silly question on straps

25+ year Leica wannabe. I just got a Q3 and instantly wanted more so now waiting on a SL3.  I like the strap that came with the Q3 so far and the strap that comes with the SL3 looks even better to me so why does everybody seem to disregard both immediately?  I am curious as I want to order what I want and need prior to getting the SL3 and have everything ready to go.  I loved my straps that came with my Canons and never replaced a single one,  I guess my only slight issue withe the Q3 strap is that it's so narrow.  The SL3 looks to be similar to the Canons but it appears to be neoprene so would be stretchy.

is there a Leica shop near by ? 

Maybe you give it a visit and then you can check out the options in real life without having to guess. 

I use PeakDesign for all my cameras. 

Bevor that I used the tarmac straps :

These are still in use, when I test a camera. They still are fine and work. 

There are some new straps with a "Ball" so that the strap does not cuddle. 

But like with all these decision, you should test them in person. 

Thats what I would do if a shop is available.

If not, maybe you have a friend that has a solution.

Peak Design all the way for me too. People avoid them because they are not showy, but they are the most functional on the market.

Thanks for tips.  No Leica store anywhere near or any camera stores of any kind now.  Closest thing is Best Buy and that is not a camera store.

Eddycam for my SL, but I use some homemade too with red nylon tape.

Not sure which straps come with the SL3, but those which came with the SL2(s) are perfect to me, using it as a (cross)shoulder strap.

For the m and q, i used my leather gordy’s. 
I tried this leica cord/rope for them, but it was too big.

Looks like the big metal slide buckle on the Peak Design could do some scratching when going in and out of a camera bag.

I have a few of those. I have been unable to scratch anything with them. Not even soft plastic.

For the lighter cameras - Q and M series - the original Leica strap (14312) that came with my M3, M6, all the R cameras - cannot be beat in my opinion. I have a few and have moved them around to the body I am using currently. Comfortable, lightweight, very compact in a case, not "showy". It was an accessory that Leica got very right and I'm sorry it is no longer available outside of the used market (where you can find one pretty easily). 

The SL with SL lenses mounted is a bigger, heavier beast. Here you can have fun shopping. I use a Rock & Roll Hendrix on mine as it has some springy give to it. I've read some accounts of the attachment method coming loose. I use adhesive on the leather to make sure that can't happen.

Attachments coming loose is normally the result of incorrect attachment. It is quite impossible if attached correctly.

The Hendrix strap uses a lacing method of securing the ends - without any metal hardware, which is nice. But with the variables of the leather you select (smooth vs. suede) and the precision possible in the cutting process, I'm not sure that failure is impossible, even if attached correctly. As mentioned above, an adhesive applied to the upper portion of the laced piece - or better still, a rivet - adds security. One report of failure is too many and I believe there have been more than one reported in the forum. That said, I still find it a comfortable (and good looking) system for a heavier camera like the SL.

Ah-I thought you referred to the Leica straps

BTW Luigi Creazenzi of Leica Time makes very nice no-metal straps as well.

Copy that... the 14312 strap can be confusing the first time you put one on. I still often need a couple of tries before I get the adjustment stays facing the right way.

Easier to orient and correct if you put metal ring on first and attach strap after.

That PD slide buckle looks pretty nasty to me as well.

I do not want plastic pieces attached to  my Leica’s, even not an EVF on my M’s 🙂
