I used the Remove Tool in Photoshop for some of the easier bits and then the Clone Tool at various Opacities and Flow for the 'fiddly' bits around the man and the dog's hair.

I thank you for and appreciate your suggestion, however I’m not entirely sure what you mean when you say reduce the smoothness of his face. Do you mean to reduce the Clarity, or Sharpness of his face?

If you see in the raw image, there was more clarity in the face as well as in the hair, which was kind of lost in the edited one. Maybe you can try to reduce the sharpening or smoothing tone of the face.
