I can't figure out why a battery for my M10R is 2x the price and harder to find than a battery for my recently-acquired Hasselblad X2D.  Shouldn't the economy of scale favor the Leica??   Surely there have been far more M10s produced than X2Ds.

Do a little research into the ownership structure of Hasselblad these days, and where the X2D's actual components (not the final assembly of the cameras) are made.

Read the fine print on your existing Hassy batteries.

In addition to @adan relevant reply (owned by large Chinese conglomerate), hassy has used the same battery form for every new camera they’ve made since the x1d, but is still making new cams with said battery.

sure, there is also a Leica tax for everything but the m10 batteries were $175 when the camera came out nearly 10 years ago. And Leicas had been using multiple battery forms since then, and they haven’t made new camera that uses that battery for years now. They should be easier to get though, hence this and many other threads on the topic.

I ordered one from CameraWest and, after a 3 week delay it says it has been shipped.  $215 + shipping.  Also, B&H now shows that the BP-SCL5 is in stock.  Same price.

I asked the CameraWest person what was the cause of the  delay and he told me they get small batches from time to time and that they are again sporadically available.  A system glitch at their end had shown the battery as 'available' when they were actually waiting for new stock.

So in the US it seems some patience is called for, but at least my M10 is not a $4,500 brick.

B&H is now showing it as temporarily out of stock, no longer backordered. I’m patiently in search of a backup but not desperate quite yet, I’m getting a full day of shooting out of my main battery.

In stock at Cameras West. People need to stop relying on B&H as some sort of end all be all camera store. Often stock, and better prices and customer service, are available elsewhere. Just had to go through that with a friend and point her away from her reliance on B&H for printing supplies.

I’d go so far as to say at this point that if you can find yourself a few non superstore Leica dealers and wait a few weeks (or days) that you’ll have a battery now. You may have to do the dreaded personal email or phone call.

but It’s not hard at this point and I think people should not be panic buying. Unless you’re regularly exhausting your power supply I don’t see the need to stockpile. The US supply issue was bad for awhile but genuinely seems to have relaxed with the past few months.

I bought 2 batteries with my original m10 in 2017. Both still work quite well.
I bought a backup battery for m10m some months ago, and it feels superfluous. I’d wager I have more clicks on my bodies than most.

I recently bought a used M10M, I know the Monos have their own thread but the batteries are the same and this post is about those.

I was concerned about the battery situation as chronicled in this thread, my new used camera coming with one battery of unknown history.  I always want to have two so I can go out for a day's shooting and not have to try to conserve battery charge.   I was looking at various sources and put in a request with B&H to notify me if they got any in, a normal automated part of B&H's website.  I received a handful of "Not Yet" notices, which they email every two weeks but then got one saying in stock.  So I jumped on it, and now I have the backup I was anxious about.  Got to hand it to B&H's service on this one.

I actually got two new ones--sorry for the hoarding but even without supply issues I think that's the number to have.  I've been known to lose little objects like batteries!  I'm also possibly going to be buying a used M10R in the future which I'd be a little fearful about without the extra in hand here.

I was also checking at Samy's Camera in Los Angeles, local to me, still out of stock there.  They're a pretty big Leica dealer and I'd expect them to get some in if they're coming available in the USA.  I guess they might have gotten a few and sold out, I stopped checking once I put in my B&H order, just looked now out of curiosity and out of stock.

I'll wait for some reviews either on Amazon or here and really have no need for it, but....I'd bet there's a good chance it works.

It also probably wouldn't exist if Leica had made a point of keeping up with demand!

Mine has self discharge problem and always indicate 100% full power level despite that used for a day. Did yours has the same problem?

Sounds just like the cheap M9 aftermarket battery I got from Amazon. I ordered the M10 version to test (expecting it to be the same) but it hasn't arrived yet, The genuine M10 batteries also self-discharge must faster than the Leica M9 batteries do.

Very strange. They make many batteries listed as being for Leica devices, but I couldn’t find a single one with any reviews.

If a new original Leica battery doesn’t get charged and stay in box as spare, will it function as new when it’s called into service when needed?
