romualdo Posted March 12, 2024 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure if this has been already mentioned but I've just found this universal "quick loading" spool that is compatible with most of the screw mount Leicas (I to IIIf) Has anyone purchased/tried this? It's likely to have been 3D printed. Their only presence is on ebay (AFAIK) - unfortunately they don't ship to Australia (may have to drop them a line) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/204557289021 Film spool for all older Barnack Leicas with L39 screw bayonet except the g-series - Replacement spools SPULM (1931-53) and spring spool SVOOP (14021) (from1954). - Quick-change design: Compared to the original coils, the coil does not have to be removed from the housing to insert the Film - we still recommend the use of a film cutter, such as https://www.ebay.de/itm/204290945110 for cutting a long tab (even if there have been no torn films in previous tests) - works with 24 and 36 Exp film - Designed and 3d-printed in Germany: Your purchase supports a small startup! Advertisement Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Hi romualdo, Take a look here Ausgeknipst "Quick Load" Spool for Leica I-IIIf. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
qqphot Posted March 13, 2024 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2024 (edited) I'm having a hard time understanding how it would allow loading film with an untrimmed leader as shown in the seller's demonstration video. It seems like a matter of luck whether it falls properly into the film channel or catches on the edge of the film gate or shutter track or whatever. Ausgeknipst Official Posted August 13, 2024 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2024 Hi, not sure if I can post here, as I m the manufacturer of the spool. To answer your questions, the spool is meant to be used like the M3 Quick load spool. We still recommend to trim the film, as in the Barnack Leicas, there is still a possibility to damage the courtain. We now also have our own website: ausgeknipst.de We have a demonstration video, that shows how the spool has to be fitted and how it works: If you have more questions, feel free to reach out to us. All the very best Anto
wlaidlaw Posted August 13, 2024 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2024 My personal preference is Leotax take-up spools which have a spring loaded knurled sleeve that bayonets into the spool body. To release it, you push in gently, rotate slightly counter-clockwise and it springs up, thereby avoiding broken finger nails and much cursing, when a spool sticks in the body (always when you are in a hurry). I now have three of them, which sit in my three most used Barnacks (out of 11 in my collection), Model III (F), IIIa and IIIg. Wilson
