Hey,

i never take the charger with me on a trip.
I use the cameras at night to charge the batteries and the nitecore charger for the rest of charging.
while on a shoot I use these

Anker 622 powerbank.

I have 4 of them which brings me through 2 days of shooting  without charging the powerbanks.

if I do video I use v mount batteries with usbc or usb charging.

the Anker also charge my phone if I need.

I have one issue with the Leica chargers.
they can only use AC.
I would love if they also could fast charge with DC.
An for a charger of this value I would love to see some more display going on.

cheers Peter

it is not a big thing re charger.

I support Leica's decision. Pros who need 3-4 batteries, usually afford new chargers. DC charger is more interesting as you can charge from car or powerbank.

UK double charger price £135. You shouldn't be paying $400, @jaapv.

OTOH, although I already have a charger for my SL2-S batteries, if I buy the SL3, I would sell the SL2-S - with its charger. Chargers go with the camera. (Between the SL2-S, the Q2, and an accidental purchase of an extra battery, I have 5 batteries).

I can go through two batteries a day for the SL2-S, so charging in-camera is something I'd only do in desperation.

I am not a pro and I do need four batteries per camera. And two chargers. I am 5 weeks a year in Africa and if a charger breaks down, gets lost or is stolen I am stuffed

The sensible thing would have been to include a little brick, like the m11, and leave out the cable and wall unit. That is what the EU law is asking for anyway.

The dual block in the US is $200 for dual fast charging.

I still like the Nitecore better when traveling, it packs smaller and works.

I looked up the charging time on the instructions, it is still 80% 2h and 100%  3.5h

But keep in mind that if you upgrading, you may need a bunch of new batteries too. the camera is hungry.

The old battery stigger screen popup that a few options are not possible with this battery in video and burst...

And why we are talking about batteries. It would have been sensible to add a USB port on the battery, like many companies are doing now.

That's the advantage of USB-C charging. It's not hard to buy/borrow a USB-C charger anywhere in the world.

My guess is that Leica found-out that there is a small subset of customers who need a single-battery external charger. Those that shoot a lot want a double charger (plus power banks, etc.), and everybody else already owns several USB-C chargers. So the question becomes: should they include a single-battery charger that is redundant e-waste for the majority of customers, and insufficient for the rest?

I realize that this is inconvenient for your use case, where you will be isolated for an extended period.

Personally I find the absence of a charger a deal-breaker. I cannot imagine having to charge by USB when I am out shooting with large power-hungry lenses and not a power source for this funny USB adapter within miles, nor having a power bank dangling from my camera.  I always rotate a couple of full batteries. Do I have to get up a few times at night to switch charging batteries?
This is a camera aimed at professional level use, right? War correspondents, wildlife photographers, antarctic expeditions, etc? Not just one battery every two days shooting the cats and kids.

Slamming 400$ on the price to rectify this cost-cutting is too Leica for me.

I love the passion Jaapv.  I have the same thoughts...

With the nearest shop selling serious cameras 2000 km away - mainly unpaved roads? Or 6 hours by Cessna?

When all other cameras include a charger?

Most or many new cameras seem to include only components needed for in-camera charging (cable and brick). The brick is unnecessary and will probably never be used.

When traveling, you may be better off using a lightweight third party charger anyway.

What is wrong with no charger? If you need one, you buy one. If you already have Q3, you can use that one. The dual charger is 155 euro, which is peanuts icw the camera/lenses, and trips. (It is an honest question, I don't want to insult anybody).

That's a very unusual circumstance where you have access to AC power, but nobody in your party has a USB phone charger, your vehicle doesn't have a USB plug, no one has a laptop with USB, etc. In that case, you might want to bring a second phone charger, a 12v adapter for a car, or buy a spare Leica charger (original or aftermarket). I realize it's an inconvenience and extra expense, but those kinds of circumstances always require some redundancy in your equipment. A 12v power socket adapter should only weigh a few grams, and you can get high-power versions for a very reasonable price (under 20 Euro).

Charger...no charger..there is always a way...rubbing the body in the area where the battery is should bring back some life to the insert..

Anyway...does it come with a shoulder strap?

Yes a strap is in the box

a battery and USB-C cable.

What is surprising is the Printed manual is in the box!

got it..

so Leica saved the planet by not including made from crude (plastic) charger...and they cut a tree to print the manual...EU logic @ best

Try charging a battery from a laptop in the pouring rain in the middle of nowhere instead of having it charging comfortably in your hotel room or tent. The point is omitting it and then slamming a 500% margin on an “accessory” made in SE Asia. I am sure it that  the charger  is not individually hand-whittled from exotic materials under the roots of a tree in a forest near Wetzlar. What next? Selling 5000$ lenses without rear cap and selling it separately for 250$ in case someone wants to take it off the camera during a shoot?

Has Leica secretly put Thorsten to work in their marketing department?? 😳
