ajthornbury Posted November 18, 2008 Share #141 Â Posted November 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica seem committed to changing sensors on any D2, and there has been no end date given. Mine is a 29xxxx No and failed last year, my reseller gave me the telephone No of the UK service centre at Milton Keynes. They were very helpful and apologetic about a failure of the camera. The camera was returned to them, for onward transport to Solms. The camera was received back ( carriage paid) 4 weeks later in pristine refurbished condition. Leica did not make these sensors, it is a Sony problem, but Leica seem to be honouring their quality pledge with out any hassle. other manufacturers including Canon and Nikon are suffering from this problem. The main point is that the D2 is a classic, well made, well balanced, good looking and produces superb images. It's worth hanging on to sensor worry or not. If so, the transaction may be guaranteed, since the seller obviously didn't tell you the sensor was kaput.  However, the repair will be free, so aside from your disappointment, you can get the thing fixed and have it back in a short while. My sensor repair only took a couple of weeks, door to door.  It it's in nice shape, maybe you'll be pleased when it's fixed.

German sellers don't like Paypal(item # 250325092824) I asked about the sensor to the seller before auction,He said:"I don't know if it's a new sensor",It was a risk....I lost I'll go to a Leica center in Paris tomorrow,I hope that's free.Repair's man said on the phone : "Normaly,it's free, but come with your bill (fortunatly,I've one,but it's a German bill) I think all second hand buyers have no bill ,so,what ? ravduc Posted December 6, 2008 Share #150 Â Posted December 6, 2008 There is no way that a camera sensor can stop working all of a sudden during shipment. It would be extremely unlikely. The seller most likely new that the sensor was not working. I would ask for a partial refund for the trouble and expense of mailing the camera to Leica. If the seller refuses then leave negative feedback. Other buyers on Ebay need to be warned about fraudulent sales.
Douglasco Posted December 6, 2008 Share #151 Â Posted December 6, 2008 I have just had a digilux 2 from red dot cameras, it arrived yesterday its a stunning camera. The images are spot on in jpeg. I nearly had one off ebay so I am glad I changed my mind. The person who sold it to you should be baned from ebay
Bu11dog Posted December 15, 2008 Share #152 Â Posted December 15, 2008 Mine, SN 2989XXX Failed today. Was intermittent the last few days and finally failed. Â Hope they still have enough sensors to replace it.

Mine worked fine on a Thursday, but when l turned the camera on the following morning, nothing ! I agree it's likely that the seller sold the item knowing the sensor had gone, but my experience seems to show that it is just possible that he may not have known. If the seller refuses then leave negative feedback. Other buyers on Ebay need to be warned about fraudulent sales. Â I don't think this is impossible. It happened with mine when I didn't use the camera for a couple of days during travelling by car with a tent for summer holidays. Then after some days when I picked it up again the camera didn't work anymore. Â It could be some temperature/moisture situation which triggers the malfunction. Transport can be warm/cold on the same day and maybe som condense water (just a little inside the camera) was enough? Â There may be a lot of frauds out there on Ebay (or just everywhere) but in this case the seller doesn't necessarily have to be one. But ofcourse the disappointment is big when you bought the camera and can not test it for its full capacity when receiving it. I hope your camera will be perfect when you get it back from Leica, Aerospace!
