01maciel Posted February 27, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The new Xiaomi 14 Ultra lanunched the day before yesterday. The new smartphone with a LEICA VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.63-2.5/12-120 ASPH lens can simulate the look of various large Leica lenses using a preset. This is obviously the result of Leica's partnership with Xiaomi. Bad luck that it uses the OS Xiaomi HyperOS only, hence it is not connected to the Android Play Store. Apart from that the optical performance is quite impressive.
Advertisement Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 Hi 01maciel, Take a look here Now final: there is no longer any reason to buy Leica lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Al Brown Posted February 27, 2024 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2024 A bold clickbait title. Should be in the form of a question, so Betteridge's law of headlines would apply. 1

What is the crop factor of this thing? For iPhones that is around 3.5 now for the latest. Edited February 27, 2024 by dpitt

Perhaps, but it was exactly what I thought when I read the specs of the phone. The question is, can Leica simply replace its outstanding technical-optical expertise in manufacturing of excellent lenses with cheap imitation software? I'd be surprised if it doesn't when sold outside China. HyperOS is the latest, rebranded version of what Xiaomi used to call MIUI, which is Android under the hood. The global edition of MIUI has Google Play services (my spare phone is a cheap Xiaomi, and had all the usual stuff like Gmail, Google Maps and the Play Store out of the box). It's not like Huawei. RexGig0 Posted February 27, 2024 Share #10 Posted February 27, 2024 Well, I have an increasing number of reasons for leaving my “smart” mobile device at home, or, carried with me, but kept deep inside a pouch or bag, where I keep it set to silent mode, and largely ignore the infernal thing. Anbaric Posted February 27, 2024 Share #11 Posted February 27, 2024 According to Xiaomi, the lens has a '75mm floating telephoto and 120mm periscope', which could be handy for U-boat commanders.

Louis Posted February 29, 2024 Share #16 Posted February 29, 2024 Recently, I followed the good advise of a friend, a long time user of Leica, and purchased a Sigma for my SL2. At first, I was not very happy about the "plastic" built, being used to Leica's beautifully made lenses. But after a while using the lens, I realized how good was the glass! ... I am sure Leica would make more money in providing Leica users cheaper glasses!

The phone made a capture but I could not change it enough to get the same result in post processing than I would with my M10. I really would like to see if this is possible with this new phone.
