Now final: there is no longer any reason to buy Leica lenses

The new Xiaomi 14 Ultra lanunched the day before yesterday. The new smartphone with a LEICA VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.63-2.5/12-120 ASPH lens can simulate the look of various large Leica lenses using a preset. This is obviously the result of Leica's partnership with Xiaomi. Bad luck that it uses the OS Xiaomi HyperOS only, hence it is not connected to the Android Play Store. Apart from that the optical performance is quite impressive.

The aperture is possible, but surely this must be 12-120mm eq.
What is the crop factor of this thing?

For iPhones that is around 3.5 now for the latest.

A bold clickbait title.

Perhaps, but it was exactly what I thought when I read the specs of the phone.  The question is, can Leica simply replace its outstanding technical-optical expertise in manufacturing of excellent lenses with cheap imitation software?

Is it really a question? So far no cigar. And I would be the first to get such phone.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't when sold outside China. HyperOS is the latest, rebranded version of what Xiaomi used to call MIUI, which is Android under the hood. The global edition of MIUI has Google Play services (my spare phone is a cheap Xiaomi, and had all the usual stuff like Gmail, Google Maps and the Play Store out of the box). It's not like Huawei.

oh, you're right. I was confused with Harmony OS, in China Hongmeng OS (chinese 鸿蒙OS, Pinyin Hóngméng OS)

Recently, I followed the good advise of a friend, a long time user of Leica, and purchased a Sigma for my SL2. At first, I was not very happy about the "plastic" built, being used to Leica's beautifully made lenses. But after a while using the lens, I realized how good was the glass! ... I am sure Leica would make more money in providing Leica users cheaper glasses!

Some people are happy eating processed cheese slices instead of real cheese. Not me. The choice is nice.

I tried to make a picture with my iphone a few days ago of a difficult against the sun lighting situation in a wet environnent. The phone made a capture but I could not change it enough to get the same result in post processing than I would with my M10. I really would like to see if this is possible with this new phone.
