Dr. G Posted February 19, 2024 Share #1  Posted February 19, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone tried out the various 24mm options available for the SL system? I sold my Q2 because I don't really love 28mm. I have used 24mm lenses on my old Sony cameras and found it great to work with. Looking at the Panasonic 24 1.8 and the Sigma 24 f2, but am not opposed to M mount options. Simone_DF Posted February 19, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted February 19, 2024 I have the Sigma 24 f3.5 and I think it's a great little lens.
ivohula Posted February 19, 2024 Share #3  Posted February 19, 2024 (edited) I love the 24mm focal length, no matter which camera system I use. I have used M 24mm Summilux for years on my M bodies and now for quite a while on my SJ2 with the Leica M to L converter. I have nothing but praise for this combination and would recommend it highly. I find the 24mm focal length at the acceptable limit of distortion, if used with respect. 21mm is always going to give you some distortion, but not 24mm; even for environmental portraiture, I find 24mm is fine as long as certain compositional rules are followed. Edited February 19, 2024 by ivohula
Chuck Albertson Posted February 19, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted February 19, 2024 I use a 24mm Elmarit-M, mit adapter. I'm waiting for the SL 24.
Olaf_ZG Posted February 19, 2024 Share #5 Â Posted February 19, 2024 I was not crazy about the rendering of the sigma f2. Sold it. Now I have this fl covered by either zoom or a elmar or biogon, the latter two both m lenses.

garysamson Posted February 20, 2024 Share #7  Posted February 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought the Sigma  L mount 24mm f3.5 because of the positive reviews, but it was defective out of the box.
Planetwide Posted February 20, 2024 Share #8 Â Posted February 20, 2024 (edited) This is a very good deal... https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1846623/0?keyword=leica,24mm#16474913 The lens is known to show a hot spot under very bright conditions, otherwise, its very nice... Pierre68 Posted February 20, 2024 Share #11 Â Posted February 20, 2024 +1 vote for the 24mm Summilux. I love the rendering of this lens either on the M10R or on the SL2-S

Dr. G Posted February 20, 2024 Author Share #14  Posted February 20, 2024 Thinking a little outside the box here, but any thoughts about using the CV 21 1.4 Nokton to have a little wider field of view? I plan on getting the SL3, so cropping in to a 24mm equivalent would be no issue (It probably wouldn't be an issue on the SL2-S either). It looks like distortion is well controlled on that lens and it seems to get positive reviews.

I'd assume the Nokton performs the same.
Krycek Posted February 20, 2024 Share #16 Â Posted February 20, 2024 What do you think about the Leica R24 f2.8? Does it perform well on SL2/SL2-S?

Stuart Richardson Posted February 23, 2024 Share #18  Posted February 23, 2024 (edited) I would encourage you to go with a native 24mm L mount lens. In my experience the L mount lenses perform better as a whole than M lenses on the SL2. They are all very recent designs, and the Sigma and Panasonic lenses both seem to have excellent results for a very reasonable price. They are not particularly large or heavy lenses either. You get the advantage of auto focus, weather sealing and automatic stop down. The 24mm f/3.5 also focuses extremely close, which is a big advantage over any of the M lenses. I am sorry to hear the report about the 24mm 3.5 Sigma being defective. I have that lens and find it to be exceptionally good just as a lens in general, and when compared to its price it is an incredible deal. I cannot recall having reports of problems with it or the other Sigma lenses other than this one in the thread here. That is very unlucky for Gary, but I don't think it has a particularly high failure rate, as it is a lens that gets talked about pretty regularly here. I have found it a very appealing lens for its high build quality, small size and weight, and very good performance across the entire frame. It is sharp and contrasty and has good color. The only area where it seems to suffer a bit is vignetting, which is rather strong, but also correctable with a single check box in lightroom. I don't shoot all that often with a very wide angle of view, so for me it is a huge advantage to have a lens that provides excellent imaging quality for a low price and with a compact size and weight. I can toss it in the bag and basically not notice it for weeks, but it is always there and ready to do a great job. Welcome, dear visitor! Dr. G Posted February 26, 2024 Author Share #19  Posted February 26, 2024 In the end I ordered the Sigma 24mm f/2 i series lens. I also preordered the Laowa 10mm f/2,8 that should be available soon - but that's a completely different lens for a whole different type of photography. Dr. G Posted February 27, 2024 Author Share #20  Posted February 27, 2024 My package arrived from B&H this morning and apparently something got lost in translation when I modified the order. Instead of cancelling the Sigma 20mm f2 and adding the Sigma 24mm f2, they sent both. At least I'll have the opportunity to compare them and make a decision.
