Lew Posted January 9, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any ideas re why this isn't planned until 2027?
Advertisement Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Hi Lew, Take a look here Q3 Monochrom. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bobtodrick Posted January 9, 2024 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2024 Where did this come from. I can find absolutely nothing on this after an extensive web search. Can you supply a REPUTABLE link. Someone who heard it from a friend of my uncle isn’t reputable.

Lew Posted January 9, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted January 9, 2024 Thanks, but the "official" product release date somewhere in the forum (I think) is sometime 2027. Since the bw converted sensor and electronics are the same as the already released M11m, I don't get it.
thegobi Posted January 9, 2024 Share #5 Posted January 9, 2024 Is a Q3 Mono even likely? The M11 has that historical film/rangefinder connection to the past but the Q has one foot in the future—will Leica Looks be the new Mono?
db24fps Posted January 9, 2024 Share #6 Posted January 9, 2024 Do we have any clue was to how well the Q2Mono sold? I can't decide whether it's more logical for them to do a Q3Mono or a Q3P next. I know they skipped doing a Q2P, but a Q3P with the larger internal storage capacity and content authentication carried over from the M11-P might be the more worthwhile endeavour. Of course, both a Q3P and a Q3Mono would be welcome. Until the Q3 itself becomes readily available at retail and Leica have fulfilled demand then it's hard to imagine a variant coming to market though. Lew Posted January 9, 2024 Author Share #7 Posted January 9, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't know anything about sales, but since the sensor jiggle is ported directly from the 11 Mono, and the form factor seems unchanged from the q2... why wait? Don't they see I need this?

I haven't read anything in this forum or elsewhere that mentions an official release date. There will probably be a Q4 by 2027, and no, that's not official 😂

ksrhee Posted March 6, 2024 Share #10 Posted March 6, 2024 (edited) If the Q2 and the M11 are any indication, I expect Q3 M to be announced sometime around November this year. Edited March 6, 2024 by ksrhee
mhasman Posted March 6, 2024 Share #11 Posted March 6, 2024 Monochrom is always "alike but b&w", follows color body, MM vs M, QM vs Q. Wish - for sure, not happening - Leica risks playing sideway, releasing Q3M anyhow deferent... maybe keeping non-flip screen but showing new 35mm lens... yeah, in my dreams, I know
shadowcat1969 Posted November 25, 2024 Share #12 Posted November 25, 2024 They might be holding off because they're trying to decide which camera to use. The 28 or 43 personally I say the 43 would be best.
Le Chef Posted November 25, 2024 Share #13 Posted November 25, 2024 (edited) The issue, as has been discussed times before, is that Sony does not have a sensor that can support PDAF without a Bayer array infront of it. That’s why there’s no SL3M. Until Sony can deliver, or Leica moves to a new supplier for Q4, it’s not going to happen. jacelech Posted April 5 Share #14 Posted April 5 Why not place a 43 lens on the Q2M? That camera relies on CDAF and would avoid the PDAF issues. Even if a Q2M 43 sensor resolution is in the 40s instead do the 60s, many who are hoping for a 43 lens for mono work would be willing to consider it, and it would pair well with Q2M. I'm not a production designer so can't presume to know too much about this, but it would seem to be a feasible minor production change for Leica. I use a 50 on my M10M, but would welcome the AF and IBIS of the Q system.
