Cable release for Visoflex III

Can anyone kindly advise me which double cable release to use with a Visoflex III on an M8 please? (I'd be grateful for the Leica numerical code and codeword if possible please.)

normally you shouldnt have to use a double cable release on the visoflex III, when you use a normal one on the visoflex, the visoflex arm should swing down and press the release on the camera.

Thanks, Laki, but when I need to take a long exposure I don't want to blur the image by touching the camera so I'd like to make use of the cable release hole in front of the arm.

thats how i meant it, maybe i was not clear using the cable release on the release hole of the visoflex will swing its arm down and so it will release also the camera.

 

if you use the normal leica cable release which has also a fixation screw on it, you can easily use it for long time exposures.

I am assuming that you are using a tripod. If that is the case, you do not need a double cable release, because the Visoflex III mirror can be raised manually by turning the round knob on its side.

 

That knob has three colour coded positions; I am going from memory and cannot give the colour coding for each of them. It is simple to figure out - just turn the knob and you will find its three functions:

1. Quick mirror release
   
2. Slow mirror release
   
3. Mirror locked up

For your purposes - use a standard cable release in the Visoflex and raise the mirror slowly - the tripping arm will release the shutter. Or, raise the mirror manually and trip the shutter by using the cable release on the camera's shutter button.

 

The Visoflex II or III were not designed for a double cable release, only the Visoflex I was.

If one uses a cable release, the quick mirror release will not function. Slow release only.

Working on tripod, I found that is much easier not to use a cable release, and simply setting the 2 seconds "self-exposure"...

Yes, that's what i do also.

The only double cable release Leitz made was for the Visoflex I. While the camera end of OZTOM/16491 will fit the M8, the reflex housing end will not fit either Visoflex II or Visoflex III. A lot of secondary suppliers made, and perhaps still make, double cable releases for automatic lenses mounted on bellows. Try searching on Accura on E-bay.

Thanks very much for all of your replies, it sounds like the cable release isn't required for the Viso so I'll continue to use the timer with the knob and the red dot. It ... um ... hadn't occurred to me that the knob was intended to be used in this way. But then I'm a bloke, so reading the instructions just wasn't going to happen ...
