I have also suggested a 'penalty' scheme to you (privately ;)) to encourage 'slackers' to speed up. Hmm.

How are they "slackers" if the deadline is 3rd November but today is 31st October?

Pete.

PS, For disclosure, my entries were sent a couple of days ago so I'm not delaying the process.

Simple. If all entries were submitted on the deadline, Andy would then be faced with the onerous task of starting the posting of entries at the last moment. Of necessity, that is a time consuming task. It will keep voting etc even later. By that time everyone (I assume) will have other interests to pursue. A reasonable person would allow a 'reasonable' time for Andy to prepare entries for posting rather than holding out till the last minute. I think another word to cover it might be courtesy. Andy, despite now being retired, I am sure has other demands on his available time.

Incidentally, today is November 1. ;)

I also suggested to Andy that latecomers be turned into 'place holders' and I would submit my images of Nice in their place. (Tongue in cheek of course).

Punishing participants for following the rules?

No! Just lack of common courtesy. Dealing with a 'swamp' of entries at the last minute would not be my idea fun.

How long does it take to review your images and select your best example? If anyone can't do that the same day, probably they don't have a potential winner anyway.

Submitting ASAP shows respect for the organizer's time.

No need to have a row about this, gents. I set the rules and it’s fine to work within them. There were three weeks to get me the photos and that time expires on Sunday at 22:00 UCT. No one is going to be punished or penalised for anything.

I was only reminding people to submit as I don’t want anyone to forget and it means that I can get the voting started more quickly. This year, I have 26 entrants to put into one thread, having stripped any wayward EXIF data from the images, copied and pasted the titles onto them (most arrive with generic file names), and so on.

I will begin this task on Sunday morning, but if there is a flood of late entries on Sunday evening, it’ll be Monday before the judging can begin.

Thanks for the debate and your consideration. 😊

Some photographs have arrived this morning (I’m away from home today), so we are nearly there.

If they all come before the weekend, I’ll put  them up here for voting as soon as I can.

Thanks.
