jetlag Posted September 27, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just noticed that my new Q3 (which I’m so happy to finally hold in my hands) has the Leica and other lens markings turned slightly on the side. It doesn’t appear to be something I can correct myself. Has this happened to anyone else? What would you do? I know it’s just cosmetic but it’s just a little odd haha Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Hi jetlag, Take a look here Q3 off center lens markings - anyone else?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 27, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2023 Normally these rings are just screwed in. It should be easy to correct, but I don't know whether the Q3 is constructed the same way as most other Leica lenses.
Guest Posted September 27, 2023 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2023 Definitely doesn't look right. Maybe there's an easy fix, but I would contact whoever you purchased it from.
earleygallery Posted September 27, 2023 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2023 If you tilt your hand to the left a little it will look better!
BobsFirstLeica Posted September 27, 2023 Share #5 Posted September 27, 2023 All kidding aside, I agree with @Corius. Something is not right and the place of purchase needs to intervene and fix it!!! Don't mess with it yourself. For such a costly item that is, from what I understand, hand assembled, this should not happen. Bob

Voxen Posted September 28, 2023 Share #7 Posted September 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) These are the things that make me wonder about the so marketed high level of manual crafting and inspection for releasing the perfect product. How come this pass through quality control?

How come this pass through quality control? Because it's just an urban legend from the pre-internet era that people tell themselves to justify spending 300% more than other brands. Search the forum and you'll find tonnes of examples of bad QC.
Miltz Posted September 28, 2023 Share #9 Posted September 28, 2023 That’s very odd. See if you apply light pressure on the ring with the hood off, if it moves. My thinking is even if the camera and lens work fine, it will hurt resale value if you ever wanna see it.
clasami Posted September 28, 2023 Share #10 Posted September 28, 2023 If it can be turned into the correct position - all fine. If not, it may indicate a more serious issue with the lens.

It does indeed seem to be incorrectly screwed in, that front element with the markings. It has a slight gap on one side with the glass element that’s not present on the other side. Or on my Q2 for that matter. I ordered it from GWP in London but have been unable to get in touch with them. No response to email and won’t pick up phone. Feels a bit strange. I’ll pop by a Leica store later and see what they say.
Miltz Posted September 28, 2023 Share #12 Posted September 28, 2023 Keep us posted. How does the lens perform otherwise? Also did it ship in the sealed brown box?

Will do! The pictures are perfectly sharp from corner to corner, so it seems there's no optical issues. It did ship with the sealed brown box and otherwise everything seemed brand new. earleygallery Posted September 28, 2023 Share #14 Posted September 28, 2023 I am sure there was another post on here where someone said the ring with the writing on fell off - I think it's just stuck on the front and there's screws underneath it. If so it should be simple enough to prise it off and refix it (but check with the Leica store first).

It appears to be a larger metal ring that also protects the front glass element.
jetlag Posted September 28, 2023 Author Share #16 Posted September 28, 2023 They were great at the store, said it wasn’t a big issue just needed to be sent in for repairs. So I’ll wait a little until the early excitement having a Q3 fades haha. Thanks for all the comments!
