So I used to shoot the Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM with an M9. For some dumb reason decided to sell the lens. Now I have an M10-P and I decided to require the lens. I find the images to be absolutely beautiful with this lens and more so with this camera. I purchased the Canon 50mm and because of its age, found it focusing and f-stop super stiff. Sent it to DAG for some work and it's perfect now. Any other folks have experiences with this lens?

I have the 2nd version of the Canon 1.4, and it is a nice performer. I’ve used it on a Canon 7s, and tried it on. Leica IIIf, where it just blocked the VF too much. Never saw a reason to try on my M10 - too many other lenses that I like.

I have not tried Canons 50 mm but i around two month ago, i bought a black Canon 135 mm f3.5 ltm, and i really enjoy that lens. Its beautiful, small, and the focus is spot on.

One of the best lenses I've ever used...

It's been my first 50mm when I got my first Leica, the M246: on monochrome sensors it works gorgeously, even wide open. I tend to use a cheap chinese light yellow filter for portraits, but with or without, I love it (sample from the last elopement I shot, f1.4).

When I got the M240 as well, I did enjoy using it, but color wise, it's, let's say, a bit washed out. For some dreamy wide open portraits it's still lovely, but when I got my 50 cron v3, well, there is absolutely no match.

I'd get it only if you paln to use it as a 1.4 dreamy lens. All in all it's cheap.

That’s an excellent shot. As always, lenses are a matter of personal preference and the purpose of the shot. I think the portrait is excellent for the situation. I like how the lens creates a painting-like effect. Almost like an oil color painting. Wide open it’s especially noticeable. There are circumstances where that may be welcome.

I think it’s unfair to simply call it the “Japanese summilux”. It really has its own character and they’re relatively inexpensive compared to a Cron or Lux 50mm. There are situations where I prefer to use my 50mm Lux but the Canon 50mm f1.4 ltm has its place.

I appreciate the Canon 50 too. I must say my "MINT. EXC.+++" copy had dry grease when I got it. The focus ring and aperture just floated along. Had to send it in for a full CLA.

The result was marvelous. It has it's own character. It has a nice separation of subject and background. In that sense it is unique. And even on the modern high-res sensors it performs well. It has great colours.

These two shots were shot with Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM on an M10-P. Love making portraits with this lens.

I actually keep the earlier 1952 50mm f/1.5 Sonnar design on my M10-P.   I love that lens.

I think that some lenses from that generation shine in soft light, highlighting subtle shades and nuances of light, especially on monochrome sensors
