Buying new, IMO the M6 is better choice since it has the angled rewind crank.

Thomas, you are right ...

I'd add the plastic articulated wind-on lever is more comfortable in use than the plain solid metallic lever of MP/M-A.

Just depending on the user's taste, nothing directly relate to photographing.

I was looking at one from 1986 Leitz and now this makes me definitely go for MP regardless it shows signs of wear or not since seems they are way easier to repair.

The M6 I bought in 1985 is still going strong, as are the vast majority of them.

Right! Do you know if the old Leicas 1986 with Leitz logo are still able to be serviced if something went wrong? Someone on this thread mentioned that they were some with some circuit light meter issues and Leica does not have those parts for these old Leicas?

I've only seen it mentioned here that the circuit board can not be replaced since they don't have spares. I have no first hand knowledge of this. Other issues with the camera should be repairable. Just look out for bubbling Zinc tops.

I like the angled lever as well, but it can easily be swapped out for a different style, so IMO not a deal breaker by itself.

I have a new MP (flat rewind knob profile = much smarter; solid metal shutter lever = quality) and an old M4 (angled rewind crank = practical; plastic-tipped shutter lever = comfortable).

The M4 brass gears are smoother in use, the MP exposure meter makes life simple, the black paint of the MP is sexy, the M4 is the last classic Leica M.......

I like them both.

Any M6 can be serviced mechanically. Some changes were made to the M6 Classic over time, as described here, before production ended in the late 90s and it was replaced by the M6-TTL. These changes included improvements to the meter, but I believe the late production meter was compatible with the earliest cameras. Today, I think all M6 Classics are in the same situation - some meter faults can't be fixed because compatible parts aren't currently available. The M6-TTL uses a different circuit board that is also no longer available. The new (2022) M6 uses yet another version of the meter, incompatible with the M6 Classic and the M6-TTL. It might be the same as (or at least compatible with) the MP meter, but I haven't seen this confirmed. This new meter, or some derivative of it, might in the future be retrofitted to earlier M6 models that need repairs (the correspondence with Leica quoted in another thread was specifically about a faulty M6-TTL, though it sounded like they were also looking at the Classic), but I wouldn't make any assumptions about this right now. An independent technician, Alan Starkie of Cameraworks UK, has also discussed reverse-engineering the M6 Classic circuit board, and has mentioned elsewhere he might consider looking at the TTL.

I wouldn't pay $4K for a beat up MP.  The box might have some value for a collector camera, but I think it's pretty meaningless for something beat up.

I am in the camp of 'who cares about the stoooopid box?'

Nice to have when selling/shipping a camera, but I wouldn't put too much value on it.  I certainly wouldn't let it sway me towards buying a beat up camera.

That was my MP. I sold it to fund for my brand new M6 reissue 😅

Also the price was adjusted for a CLA if the new owner decides to get one as it hasn’t had any service since it was manufactured in 2006. Nothing wrong with it though.

Like new MP for $4000 (equivalent in euros) from the offical Leica shop. This used price is the price of a brand new one before tax minus 10% here in EU. Fair enough.

Seen this one live, pristine, very beautiful copy.
