Hello guys,

I received brand new M10-R from a store after warranty claim, but there is some weird finish issues in my new body. Brightness sensor and patch window showing chrome peeling / unfinished egdes and problem with sealing around them ( when i clean the windows with microfiber cloth, pieces of sealing coming off) , same partly for vf itself which have seal problem and some dust inside it.

First pic I took showed number 2190. My first unit started at 1 or very close to it if I remember correctly, is this counter random or camera have already 2190 triggers?

What do you think about it? I guess that this is not the state how brand new camera with QC check look like…

thanks for all comments

A fully new camera comes in a sealed box. That is the first thing. If not sealed then . . .

What does really mean sealed? That paper box with transparent tape? It had it.

I got the camera from official Leica store. They told me brand new. Camera had taped paper box. Camera battery was completely dead, unable to charge at all, charger gave error and body have this weird chrome finish flaws ( which I never seen at any other cameras ) and rock hard seals with shutter counter at 2190 from start. Dust in viewfinder. Maybe problem with storing the camera? Maybe very old stock or repack of refurbished piece.

TBH, if you have doubt and not happy with the current conditions of the camera, simply return it. What is the causes of the problem is not important. The most important is whether you are happy with the current condition.

The battery issue can happen when the camera was a sitting duck for years, happened with my M10-P Reporter in April, got it in a sealed box, unboxed it, put the battery in, nothing.....tried to charge it, said its at 80%, kept blinking for hours and hours, wouldn't stop, back in the camera, again nothing.

seems those batteries just die after long time of no use, 2 years and 3 months in the case of my reporter.

contacted the leica support and i got treated very well by them

Hello guys,

I received a new unit from Leica, this one is mechanically flawless but this exemplar looks like have problems with screen. This issue is almost non-see able in daylight and appear only at low light or night conditions (where I use the camera most). Display have weird white corners which are that heavy that it’s hard to say if the photo is good or not. I’m starting to be really desperate about this lottery. This is currently 3rd problematic body in row.

@KubixxWhat is your screen setting (auto, light, dark etc)? If I shoot under really dark light with my M10-R I get some light bleeding around the edges. Leica aren't exactly putting mini-Eizos on the backs of these. You've never shot an M9 have you? (those who have will get the joke).

Anyway, might not be the right camera for you.

Welcome to the current iteration of Leica.  My nearly new M10R has a bottom plate so loose that it slides back and forth every time I use it.  Estimated repair time per the dealer: several months.  M11 issues are everywhere, and even Q3 users have a few complaints.  More and more, from my perspective, the only thing high quality about these cameras is the price.  The lenses on the other hand appear to be as exceptional and well built (and tested) as usual.  Here's hoping Leica can turn this around and get back to its normal high standards.

The estimate of the dealer sounds rather weird. What is  so time-consuming about asking Leica to send another baseplate? This is an error that you would have noticed immediately. You should have asked your dealer for replacement  camera on receipt.

So some negative vignetting on the LCD in low (no) light. If you send it to Leica you will probably get the camera returned to you with the note "within tolerance".

The dealer tried a couple of baseplates on it, and nothing resolved it.  It's the camera itself, where the baseplate attaches, that seems to be the problem.  The issue did not present until a few weeks ago.  It's probably a 30 minute fix, at most, but they want me to send it in, have it set on a shelf for months, and then address.

I believe you but I cannot wrap my mind around a metal body suddenly shrinking to the extent that the baseplate slides back and forth?

Agreed.  I looked closely at the attachment mechanism on the camera body to see if I could perhaps adjust it slightly, but it I'm not completely sure how it works and don't want to further tweak it.  Since I didn't notice this at all for the first year, it's possible (perhaps likely) that when removing the baseplate, I didn't fully unlock it and somehow torqued the mechanism.  I don't remember it every catching when removing, but that means little.  No idea.  I'm not sending it in for something so small, even if annoying.  I'll have Leica check it when I send it in for a complete inspection sometime before the warranty is up.

The pictures give me the impression of a painted surface, not a chromed. Even the gap between the on-off collar and the part above shows some raw finish.
Hm, is it with even digital cameras like with expensive (and even not so expensive) watches nowadays? Fakes on the market?
Just checked my camera with a strong magnifying glass (black-chrome) and there is nothing like this. Completely clean meetings of the parts.
