Hi all Q3 owners

I had a Q for four years and was very happy with it. But I sold it because of dust on sensor issues which caused three returns to factory for cleaning, 6 weeks delay each time. This really annoyed me to the point I had to sell it.

Now that the Q3 is out I’m considering giving a new try to the Q series, but at the cost of the camera I wouldn’t make a mistake.

Since I read here and there users that have some issues with the camera, I’d like to know if overall you are rather happy with the Q3 beside some of its flaws, or if you are globally disappointed.

Thanks for your honest feedback!

Comming from a Q2, I am very happy with the camera already (only received it yesterday) . Early on, there are always little things that need to be fixed - Leica is no different in that regard from other manufacturers.

The new sensor opens a lot of possibilities in terms of cropping and low light performance. The new control layout with all controls on the rights side and within reach of thumb and pointerfinger is great. So is having two Fn buttons. Will likely need to get a new spare battery with higher capacity, and a new thumbrest that is rediculously over priced :-(. But hey, this is Leica land, after all. The camera itself I find fairly priced for what it offers - and that is first and most of all: The Lens!

I'm still torn.  My main camera is the SL2-S with the APO Summicron-SL Lenses (35, 50, 75) and the 50mm Summilux-SL.  I can;t really compare the images between the two because, even at 24 Mp, the APO Lenses with the SL2-S present an image that appears higher contrast and resolution to the much higher resolution of the Q3.  I think I need to stop thinking about the Q3 as a replacement for my wide end on the SL2-S and appreciate it for the form factor and image quality in such a small package.

It would be worth posting two shots to compare. The lens on the Q is sharper than the Voigtländer 35f2 APO for Sony (and that is a very sharp, well corrected lens).

I'll try to take both cameras out and shoot similar scenes.  Mind you, I have the 35mm APO Summicron-SL as my widest lens for the SL-2S, but even if I shoot the Q2 at a 35mm crop the image will still have a higher MP count.

In this video there they zoom into a scene they took with both the Q3 and the SL2-S with the APO 28 - both at f/5.6.  If you go to around 15:40 they show both images side by side.  Remember that they're zooming into a 60Mp file vs a 24Mp file.  The results may surprise you.  They state that you can't really tell much difference, but to my eyes, zoomed in, the SL2-S/APO image looks sharper than the Q3 image.

It is difficult to tell from that video. Looking forward to your images. Guess you just downsample the Q2 image to the size of the SL-2S image, right?

Weird how this thread became an advert for the massive ugly SL cameras and their huge lenses? Did the OP ask for that?

He asked if we were happy with the Q3.  I own both the Q3 and SL2-S.  My perspective was from that position.

Came from Sony A7IV, aim was to have a smaller camera without the need to change lens and not sacrifice picture quality. Am extremely happy with the Q3, it’s very portable, very easy to use and now that I am more used to it, am getting really stunning photos straight from the camera.

Me too, I own a Q and still have it. I bought a Q3 a month ago and am very happy. Technologically speaking, Q3 is a lot more advanced than the original Q. I love the tilting screen which allows high and low shooting positions; the Leica FOTOS app is easy to connect and download photos. One important feature is the incorporated USB-C port that can be used for charging during operations, I’ve never taken the battery out for charging for the entire time since I first got the camera. I don’t worry about small issues, they have been fixed or will be with firmwares.
