bags27 Posted August 10, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Because our kids actually went to this very camp (and it is indeed wondrous), this was especially meaning to me. Within it is the nostalgia for film as a metaphor, of course, for days gone by. For copyright reasons, I'll just include a fraction of the article (one of the [film] photos there is of a friend of ours from that camp): I took photos of the campers and my fellow counselors with a Yashica twin lens reflex camera on medium format film….[But now], scrolling through the galleries from the comfort of my air-conditioned living room, I’m a distant observer. These photos [of my children at camp] are so thoroughly not mine. They’re snapshots taken on someone’s iPhone, abundant but unremarkable. I’m painfully aware they were likely taken by someone who doesn’t even know my child’s name….. At middle age, I still miss summer camp. But this new version of “camp photography” makes me ache in a profound, https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/10/opinion/summer-camp-photographs-killooleet-bunk1.html

Steve Ricoh Posted August 13, 2023 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2023 Film nostalgia for me was being able to pick up a brick of HP5 for under £50, and a roll of C200, Gold etc for under £5, well under in fact. I recollect a roll of Fuji C200 36 exp going for £2.99, then it went to £3.99 which I thought was outrageous. And that’s not all that long ago, c 2018. The cost of film today is just short of requiring a mortgage, or selling a fully functioning kidney!
Sandokan Posted August 13, 2023 Share #6 Posted August 13, 2023 For the reason that I thought they may stop making my favourite films, I stockpiled. I have about 20 cartridges of Polaroid Fuji film for the polarooid backs of MF cameras. I have about 40 rolls of Rollei and Agfa films and of course lots of Ektachrome, Ektar and Velvia, Delta100/400, FP4, Fomapan to learn LF. All in downstairs freezer taking up most of the space. And in all sizes from 135, 120 and 4x5. I guess I do not need to buy anymore ... famous last words
Steve Ricoh Posted August 13, 2023 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think I’m ‘good’ too, the salad drawer of the fridge is absolutely chocker with film with a variety of B&W, colour-negative and reversal. I’m hopeful there’s enough to see me to the end of my days, meaning I’ll have no need to purchase any more film at the outrageous prices.
