This may sound a bit weird, but my recently acquired (used) M10-R has a crooked logo. At first, I thought it was just me, but after comparing it to an M240, which I just sold to a friend, it's definitely crooked. There is a downward rotation from left to right. The rangefinder patch is also misaligned at infinity, which isn't terribly unusual, but the two issues lead me to believe that some work may have been attempted on the camera. The camera is otherwise, pristine.

I'm waiting to hear back from the seller. But please share your thoughts as to whether my detective work is worthy of Hercule Poirot, or Chief Inspector Clouseau 🤔

Thanx!

I would start by asking the seller. And, you have checked the serial number I would guess.  Perhaps a previous owner took the logo off to go incognito on the street photography circuit. (I just use electrical tape.) It does make it easy to pick you out from a crowded field of M10-R's. Maybe I'll move my M10-R logo to the left.

Yeah, the serial number is good. I was actually able to register the camera at the Leica website. Aside from being misaligned, the logo doesn't have any marks on it. Honestly, if the rangefinder patch didn't need calibration, I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Glue? Wonder what kind of glue do they use to attach the Leica red star?

To the best of my knowledge, the red (as well as the black) Leica logo stickers are self-adhesive. When affixing it to the camera, you only have one chance, it is hit or miss. They will apply a new logo sticker to the camera anyway when adjusting the rangefinder, so chances are the logo will be level then.

The red dot has nothing to do with the RF alignement, except it hides the access to the mechanism that corrects the vertical alignement. It could be totaly reverse with a perfect RF and vice versa.

If the RF must be adjusted horizontally it is with the screw that is behind the lens mount, and again it is independant of the logo position.

To get the red dot perfectly level just use two wooden toothpicks and turn gently /firmly, but that won't adjust the RF.

Poirot and Clouseau are intertainers , Miss Marple is pro😍

My M10’s red dot is a little crooked—I made it that way by removing it to adjust the vertical alignment of the rangefinder.

You can use the toothpick method to wiggle it straight again. And if you keep going, back and forth, back and forth, it’ll pop off, allowing you to adjust the vertical alignment.

It’s double faced tape and it’s supposed to have movement so it can be removed to adjust the rangefinder.

The reseller, from whom I purchased the camera, followed up with the original owner and discovered that the dot had in fact been removed, once. An attempted rangefinder adjustment.

This explains both the crooked logo and the misalignment at Infinity. As I've never removed the dot or attempted any mechanical camera adjustments, I wasn't really sure what was happening.

I've already sent the camera off to DAG, as I do with all of my pre-owned cameras. So, not a big deal... just a minor mystery.

Thanx for your input!

After reading this, I just used my thumbs to slowly correct it. I've never removed the dot or even put tape across it, so I wasn't sure how it was attached.
