If I wanted something that large i'd buy something with decent AF for a start.

As an event photographer the only time I ever have issues with the SL2S's autofocus is in complete darkness.

Q3 will still focus when the SL2S hunts, Im talking really dark though.

I shot an event at the California Club on Saturday with a SL2S and Q3. At one point I gave my Q3 with a SF40 flash to the bride on full auto and had her run around and take candid shots with everyone. Worked out so well I might just work it into my work flow.

Honestly if I wasn't doing this as a profession, I'd take the Q3. Latest firmware fixed all the issues I was having.

Even better, buy the OG Q. Best 28/35 point and shoot ever.

I guess your clients would like that, you might even sell an additional weddingbook out of this: “the brides view”…

Has anyone considered getting an sl2-s instead of the q3?

the bundled price for the sl2-s is similarly priced to the q3 and you have  the flexibility of lenses going forward

thoughts?

If I wanted something that big and that heavy, I would buy a Hummer.

Q2/3 every time.

I've owned the SL2-S and while it's more of a professional camera than a Q, the size and weight made me sell it for other brands. I have no interest in going back to a SL2 model, but love my Q2

I have an SL2 with multiple Leica SL lenses and love that camera! The overall performance is sublime and as for the size and weight, well I hit the gym 4 times a week so maybe that's  why I don't really notice...however I know others who don't work out and have no issues with the SL systems heft.

I bought the Q3 for a compact grab-n-go camera and something GF could easily use, perfect camera purpose intended! But no way I would I ditch the SL2 system and looking forward to the SL3 next year...

I currently own both and as others have said, they are very different cameras in practical use.

I really enjoy the output and build quality of the SL2-S but even with the smallest of L-mount or adapted M lenses, it's still a bit of a brick (albeit a beautifully made one).

The Q3 on the other hand, I can throw over my shoulder as I'm walking out the door and hardly notice it's there.

To me, they are a great combination - the SL2 for versatility and the Q3 for travel/everyday use.

Its always difficult to know what you want or need before you have something.

I think I would like the versatility of the sl2-s mainly because i am concerned that the q3 lens will be limiting.

On the other hand, I am interested in the compact dimensions of the q3-especially as a camera for traveling and for use as an enthusiast rather than a professional photographer.

to be honest I only shoot photographs occasionally, and i just want a nice camera to use when the mood strikes me

Indeed the Q3 is limiting. That is true.

For me I experienced that traveling just with the Q3 works perfectly well. In last spring I traveled in Ireland and I decided to take just the Q3. I never ever traveked with just one lens. But I was thrilled: It worked perfectly well.

Now it comes:

Next week I will have to take photographs at a political event and even ministers will be there and I was asked to take . . (I forgot). So I am a bit nervous. I will take the Canon R5 with 50mm f/1.2 plus 135mm f/2.0. plus the Q3 hanhing at my shoulders for overview shots. But this has to do with the availability of fast lenses and fast Autofocus. But normally (in my normal life without ministers that I hope to recognise) I refuse to go with heavy Canon stuff. Never.

The Q3 is the perfect compagnion. It is perfect from 28mm to 50mm (crop) or even higher. Just step a bit forward or backward is my zoom.

Yesterday I went to take archritecture with a friend. I had the M11 with 3 lenses. He told me that this was too much for him. He wants light gear.

A detail: My friend and mysekf we are above 70 years old 🤩

I've just covered 3 events all with solely the Q3, candids, group shots, general event coverage, including at the last one a current serving minister. Zero issues, all kinds of lighting situations, almost complete darkness for some shots, it's been a stellar performer, absolutely no worries at all about using it professionally. The only thing I dislike is the stupid boxes jumping around all over the place in a room full of people in face/eye/body mode so I just use spot, field or zone depending on the situation.

I moved from Sony with a bag full of top end glass, no regrets so far.

I wanted to revisit this thread.  Has anyone spent considerable time with the Q3 and the SL2-S together?  My Q3 arrived today but I'm on the fence about opening it.  Even though my SL2-S is only 24 MP, with my APO Summicron-SL lenses (35, 50, 75) the images have always seemed to have been made with a much higher resolution camera.

I like the form factor of the Q3, but I'm wondering if it would be better (albeit more expensive) to go with an M11 or just pick up the APO 28 SL and deal with the weight and size difference.

I’ve had both from their respective launch days (had an SL2 but much prefer the S), the Q3 is a take anywhere travel/casual/professional especially now its 60mb and you can go to 75mm pretty well. The SL2-S is a sublime high end professional camera but it’s heavy with any SL lens, I like the APO’s but to be honest my favorite combo is the Q3 and then the SL2-S with the 50m 1.2 Noctilux, I find that the 50mm APO is just too sharp for anyone over 35 :)

I’m off to the US now (Kennedy Space Centre) so I’m just taking the Q3 on the basis that a) no launches b) the Q3 can do 28-75 easily (90 is a push at about 7mb).
