Oh gosh, this "feature" on the Q3 is so annoying. 🤦‍♀️

There have been countless times where I raised the Q3 only to find that it's in Movie mode and by the time I switched back to Photo mode, whatever that I was trying to shoot was already gone.

Leica Team, please fix this asap, whether it's adding a new menu item to disable the swipe or making it a more sophisticated touch action to switch into movie.

Almost nobody buys a Q3 for its movie, so please remove, provide an option to deactivate or improve on this unwise decision that you guys made to begin with! 😆

Another few priceless shots lost due to my Q3 going into video mode and by the time I swiped it back out, whatever moment that I was trying to shoot was gone.

Leica Tean, I know you’re reading these forums. Please implement the fix asap.

Or come up with a smarter or more sophisticated way to toggle into video mode.

The Q3 is not a video camera and probably 0.1% of Q3 users care about its video, and for you to create this artificial and ridiculous hurdle or challenge for a speedy camera to not get the shots is just unacceptable, and frankly, inexplicable.

Unwanted video issue:  Interesting question.   I attended the Leica Akademie event on the Q3 yesterday in Washington DC [excellently done, by the way, and recommended.]  This very topic came up in discussion -- those commenting here should not feel "alone."  I asked the instructor "[I]s there a way to disable video mode so these "accidents" don't happen?"  Answer [I think this accurate verbatim]:  "No, not at this time."

Perhaps a groundswell of direct communications with Leica will persuade Leica to "tune up" their firmware a bit?

I think a more effective way is to email some prominent Youtubers asking if they can mention this. Leica doesn't care about a few emails, but a few videos getting tens of thousands of views have a totally different effect.

This was a very useful thread for me. I often like to have my EVF-LCD on while composing.  So it's set on  on Auto instead of EVB Extended. So how to banish Video mode?

Right swipe turns video on
Left sweep turns video off

And I can do this quickly and automatically...like shooing a fly.

I just got my new Q2 M and it also is a big problem for me. It must be the way I pick up and turn on the camera that gets Video going. I so wish there was a Menu item to disable the Video altogether so you have to activate manually and deliberately from a Menu item.

Couldn’t agree with you more.

I am having the same problem with the Q3 and only since updating to firmware 2.0.5.  I always work in Extended EVF mode.  Since the update, I was unexpectedly finding the Q3 in video mode from time to time.  After some experimentation, I found that the slightest left-swipe touch on the blank inactive LCD  was causing it to switch to video.  Moreover, the blank inactive LCD didn't respond to a right-swipe to switch back to photo.

The update also screwed up the second (rightmost) function button, even though I saved and re-imported my profiles during the firmware update.  I have it set to AE-L in favourites.  Yet pressing function 2 was switching on the video even though it is not one of the favourites set for that button.  I solved that my re-doing my list of favourites, but I am still stuck with the rogue video switching from touching the blank inactive LCD.

I have the same with my Q3 43. Left swipe switches to video, right swipe does nothing.

But on my Q2M the right swipe works ok with the same settings and inactive screen.
I now understand this is normal behaviour for the Q3?

I've had my second hand Q3 probably about 10 days now and this has happened out shooting portraits 3 or 4 times. It's an absolute PITA. Why on earth would anyone want their camera to behave in this way. I'll admit it doesn't happen at home is I take a picture of a coffee cup, or in the garden if a sneak up on a flower, or if I'm trying to get a candid photo of a chart on a wall but when I use the camera for the purpose I bought it for, portrait photography the action of taking it out of my bag and putting it up to my face has seems to randomly put it into video mode. Because I store it in my bag in standby on grabbing it I must end up running my thumb along the back of the screen enough to trigger it.

The practical effect is I say hello, pass a compliment or two, manage to get a great look. Which is then followed by me realising the damn thing has put itself into video mode, I apologise and try again but the moment is lost and the image captured is of someone thing 'incompetent idiot' which wasn't what I was initially aiming for.

I'm going to run a short survey if I can work out how!

It’s the dumbest design from all the smart engineers at Leica, period.

Or not holding their ground when stupid marketing people say “we need to add a hip touch feature.”

Never had this ever happen at all from day 1.

If you have all of the touch functions turned off you won’t but any element on and you run the risk. I normally have them on so I can move the focus point with my thumb on the screen which is handy
