Yes I updated to 1.2 via SD card, not sure i'd trust the app

We could not read anything negative here about updating through the app.  No need for such suspicions. There a certainly now at least 10 people who believe you: App not reliable.

It's up to me if I have reservations about using an app to update. People will make up their own minds. I've seen a couple of people who had issues with it and I also know from experience with Sony that app updates can cause problems, there's a reason why they went straight back to SD card updates after trying to force people to use an app with disastrous results. Generally i'm very impressed with the Fotos app so far but as previously stated will not use it for updating firmware.

I think it's been established now that V60 cards do not play well with the Q3, i've had this confirmed to me by Leica also. My start up time is around 1s with a V90 Kingston Canvas React.

Followup on my last post.  I bought this exact card, installed and formatted yesterday.  Took a few photos, left the cam off for 24 hours.  Just started up and it took about 4 seconds.  As I have stated I don't mind because I know its behavior. I know if I start it up again within a couple of hours it will start within 1 second.   What is concerning is what I reported not too long ago and that was my first freeze w/1.2.  The Q3 had been functioning flawlessly from purchase until after I updated the firmware to 1.2.

How's the new card Bob ?

I saw this on the Fred Miranda forum, not sure if it's relevant or not.

"My M11 was freezing from time to time, even with the latest firmware. Then somebody suggested that OS X writes hidden files to the SD card sometimes which might be causing some issues. So after reformatting with the SD card formatter, I now lock the SD card before inserting it into my Mac and then unlock it again when putting it back into the M11. So far, no freezes on the M11. Might be the same issue with the Q3 too."

So far, ok since the last freeze.  Didn't use my Mac to format the card.  The FW update was done via the FOTOS app.  Card reformatted in camera after the update.  I may do what was suggested for the next FW update though.  Thanks for asking.

Good to hear.

I think the issue described was that Mac OS X writes something to the SD card when transferring the image files via a reader.

Fingers crossed no more issues.

Anyone have any updated experiences with the new firmware?

Well, I still get a slow start up (4secs) when the camera hasn't been on for a few hours. And yes, I'm using a V90 fast and formatted card.  I had one freeze prior to the updated firmware - none since the update.

Has anyone elses file numbers been reset? Is this normal behaviour for Leicas? Any way to go back to where I was. Not that it matters much but it was kind of a way to track shutter actuations (not that this matters either...).

Leica has been doing this since the M10 despite being asked to change it.

It's a complete pain as there is the likelihood of duplicate file names in a catalogue and the problems that causes.

Yes, there are workarounds and many folk rename on import but it remains an inconvenience that could be easily corrected in the upgrade software.

As long as you format the card every time you put it back into the camera, it would erase any Mac-specific files that were added.

The issue of a 4 second startup after a period of the camera being off and then subsequent 1 second start times sounds like the part of the camera operating system that holds data for the SD card (like the FAT on a PC hard drive) is being lost. On a ‘cold’ boot up, the camera has to get a refresh of the card image before allowing use. Once the data is back, normal start up can resume until the supply to the RAM decays again when switched off. Doubtful this will be a firmware fix, more hard wiring?
