Kiwimac Posted July 17, 2023 Share #41 Posted July 17, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is in danger of becoming one of those esoteric internet discussions similar to the ones about whether some multi thousand dollar lens should be preferred over another to take out of focus cat pictures…! 1
Advertisement Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Hi Kiwimac, Take a look here Decided on M11…how durable is the new black aluminum, or should I just stick with silver brass?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

I knew some camera might get sensor hot due to video, but for stills only it is unacceptable. Unless if you are a Sigma Merrill DP2 addict...

Well, I used to have the M10-R that was always getting quite hot in the middle, sometimes I turned off the camera just to cool it down. The screen protector was always coming off the glass screen from the heat. the camera was silver! Is your screen protector the leica brand? My m11 use the hybrid leica screen protector and it peels after some time… getting the expertshield instead

Yes, I like the glass one for export-shield, but the Leica one is not great and is double the price.
Warton Posted July 18, 2023 Share #45 Posted July 18, 2023 (edited) M11 is still relatively new. I think it's too early to test the durability of black chrome on aluminum as of now. I would be very surprised to see a worn out black M11 in real life with normal use. Having said that, I would have bought silver on brass if I could choose again. The black is matte and it's too matte, it's almost like a fine-grain sand paper. I purchased it online without handling it and it surprised me that the paint is so coarse. A few month later I got a M10-R black paint which is also black but high gloss painting almost like a piano black, I like it better than black chrome paint on aluminum, so far. lct Posted July 18, 2023 Share #46 Posted July 18, 2023 Better choose black if the M11 proves to be as hot as suggested above. Never seen a silver frying pan so far. Just kidding. My silver M11 is fresh as a daisy but i live in a temperate country.

The M11 black paint the same black paint they use on the new M6, but on the M6, it's completely smooth like an anodized finish. They need to find an in between application method for this paint so that it feels more like the old black chrome.
