It is relevant to any Leica.  It gets to the matter of use and personal preferences.  Sometimes, and especially in photo circles, alternatives are not based upon need.

The M11 is a lot easier to find the bottom door on a grip.  But getting portrait mode is still lacking, except for RRS that has it all.

I guess a different solution for me is to toss my M10R and get an M11??????

My ball head on my tripod can rotate to portrait mode.

I use an arte di mano half case on my M11 with a small raised section at the front that gives me enough of a grip to improve my grip on the camera. They also do one with a much bigger front grip. The bottom of the case has a tripod thread and a flap that allows access to the battery/SD card compartment and the usb-c port.

I only use a tripod when I’m taking landscape pictures and in that case, I know I’ll be doing that and don’t need a permanently integrated arca plate. The battery life is so good that I know I won’t often need to replace the battery so I just attach a Peak Design arca plate, which covers enough of the bottom flap to prevent access to the battery. If I’m not certain whether I’ll need access, I use a small sirui plate pushed all the way left which lets me get to the battery. I shoot a lot of tripod mounted pictures in portrait and I just move the ballhead from horizontal to vertical. Easier than clipping out and back in again.

On my Q2, I have a Lim’s half case with an integrated arca plate. The grip is great but I haven’t found the integrated plate an advantage or the lack of an L-bracket to be a problem.

I bought the IDS Grip for my M11P, as I liked the IDS for my Q3 very much. The M11-IDS-grip is way bulkier than the sleek Q3-IDS-grip. I used it for a while and exchanged ist for the original Leica grip. Why? The IDS has a magnetic cover for the battery compartment of the M11. This magnetic cover always opened itself while cross-carrying the camera. This annoyed me so much that I got the Leica grip, which has a neat rubber cover which stays in its place.

Nonetheless, both grips were too bulky for me, so I changed to pure camera without grip. I am waiting for a grip as sleek as the IDS-Q3 version.

Also look at the Gurippu handgrip. It's designed in Canada, but made in Hong Kong.  It's thinner than the Leica one (both base and grip) and a squarer design with a smooth finish, similar to the top/base plate rather than the leatherette style finish. It still gives access to the battery/sd and usb port as well as being arca swiss compatible but does not have the rubber base. To me it gives a more minimalist style to the grip/M11 combo. It's also almost half the price (I paid 175 gbp instead of 330 gbp for the Leica).

Hiya, do you still have this grip? I'm looking at getting the version of it for my M4-2 but reviews are literally non existent

This grip is for the M11 only and would not fit the M4-2. I no longer have this grip as I now only have 1 M11 camera (Sold the M11Mono)

I use a Leica thumb support as the only accessory for all my M bodies.  Fits perfectly, easily removable, provides all the grip I need and protects the hot shoe, which otherwise isn’t needed. The SL2 better serves my EVF requirements, and I don’t use flash with an M.  Simple approach works for me.

Hi friend, I'm on the brink between the Leica and the Gurippu, I can't find any reviews or user's photos from the latter. How do you compare them in ergonomics and size?

Do you maybe have a photo of the Gurippu on?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I no longer have the Gurippu grip. The surface of the grip is smooth rather than the textured finish of the Leica one, matching a black top plate rather than the leatherette of the body.. The base does not have the rubber cover either bur there is full access to the battery/card and usb port.. On balance, ignoring price, I would say the Leica one is better but the Gurippu one works great and is worth the price, being significantly cheaper. The only reason I sold it was because I sold my M11Mono and had no need for 2 grips.

Obviously a personal choice, but for me I've always used the RRS plates. Perfect for a one handed grip, walking around with a wrist strap, plus they protect the camera and you have the bonus of the dovetails if you need tripod work from time to time. Not the prettiest, but functional.

I can recommend the one from Oberwerth. It is a handle and protector in one. I have it on both of my (M 11-P + M11 Monochrom). Together with a hand strap, ideal for portrait shots

I like the RRS and been using their grips from the M240 series but i stopped in m11.. like the modular.. at times i dont need the grip and the vertical plate, the thickness of the bottom plate enough to hold my little finger steady..

besides i use a ballhead RRS with QR, means i have limited options with the arca plate compatible

Ordered the black paint version.. looking forward to it… got the m10 version, though not used it much since i still prefer the modular RRS but since not many options for the M11 so well.. and it is a slim design, only the essentials

Anyone using the IDS "Pillar' GRIP FOR THE M11?  Significantly cheaper ($160 US) vs the IDS "Modular" grip ($377).

Also appreciate any feedback from anyone who has received the new Kamerkraft grip.

Thanks in advance,

Got my Kamerakraft Grip for the M11 last week. Some photos are attached below. I additionally own both the original Leica grip (which I use on the M11-P black) and the RSS grip for the M10 series. My experience after one week with the Kamerakraft is that the grip is neither as smooth and easy in my hands as the original Leica grip nor the RRS on the M10 variants. Furthermore with the grip attached there is only the Arca Swiss plate left to use, whereas with the Leica grip you can still choose between Arca Swiss or tripod mount screw. I have to add that I switch tripods very often on my trips, one very small Gitzo table tripod with a screw only for churches etc. and sometimes I carry an travel tripod with either screw or Arca Swiss when I know that a tripod will be used.

However, change of battery and change of SD card is easier with the the Kamerakraft grip mounted than with the original Leica one (rubber). Also there is space for a spare SD card in the grip. And in my opinion it looks better than the Leica grip, especially on a silver body, but that is secondary
