My Q3 was delivered yesterday.  My main reason for upgrading from the Q2 is the better autofocus system.  Having also been a Sony user for a few years, the Q2 autofocus leaves much to be desired.

i'm also familiar with Sony's AF, how does your Q3 compare (still waitlisted for mine)?

Just received it.
excellent but no sure to upgrade if i have had a q2, I tested in march. i did wait the Q3 only for mobile screen. I fear that 60 millions pixel had consequences on ISO. It does even it’s easy to manage it. But the crop and macro mode are excellent. So Q3 is quite better even I prefer the sensor and colour of Q2.

I have made my mind up: sold the original Q cause 28mm is too wide for me.

Tried the Q2, use it mostly on 50mm crop and I will sell it therefore.

Though I really like the tiltscreen and the fact that one can change format, I will not buy it: 28mm is not for me.

(and as a 907x is not really a edc, I need to find another camera)

The Q3 couldn’t be my single camera. I have another one (canon R5 with 24/70 and 70/200, very good but very heavy too! ) But it coverage 80 % of my day to day needs and I always have it on me. I had before a small fuljifilm (Xe4, best quality price for me) with three fixed focales (21/35/50) and I noticed that I was confortable with any of them. The real choice was the level of aperture witch was better in 50 mm.
With 1,7  and crop Q3 is perfect for my needs.
For portrait or animal photography it’s not the good tool even if the exercice can be interesting

Well, the Sony system (I use the A1 and A7RV) has incredible AF capabilities, especially for wildlife.  While the Q3 is not quite as good as the Sony, it is excellent for what it's great for - street photography and environmental portraits.  I am totally happy with it.

I just got an M to E Mount adapter for my Sony A7RIV - no AF for this adapter (though that's available too), but will see if it gives me some of the benefits of the Q again while allowing me to use my M lenses with an EVF (that has a better zoom focus mechanism than the Visoflex 2 on my M11). It's a bit chunkier though compared to the Q - but the price of interchangeable lenses.

I'm torn here. I like my M240 a lot, but it doesn't exactly fit my use as much as it used to. I'm less interested in manual focus, and more interested in compactness and simplicity. To that end, I've been using my Ricoh GRiiix more than the 240 lately. The Q3 is appealing to me because it feels like it sits in that middle ground between those two cameras, but I'm still a bit stuck on the idea of it being 28mm, I vastly prefer 35 (and would take 40 over that most of the time). I also like the very fast startup times on the Ricoh (I can hold it, powered off, hit the button, and it's ready to shoot before I've even lifted my arm).

I'm going to sit out for a bit, and see what happens with the firmware. If they can get the startup speeds into the one second range, maybe?

If you center and keep a good distance from subject, the crop to 35 and 50 is very efficient.
But the weight is far from your Ricoh. I had before a Fujifilm Xe4 and the Q3 seems to be very heavy compared to it.
Bur the stabilisation, the aperture and the sharpness of the Q3 really make the difference.

yeah, my understanding is that the Q3 is basically the size of an M6. I like my M6, it's a great camera, but it's still a "crossbody" camera for me rather than an "in your hand" camera like the Ricoh. Still, the Q series is so intriguing to me that I'm still lured to it a bit. My dream is for Leica to figure out that what I really want is a digital Minilux, but alas, they seem more interested in larger cameras these days.

I absolutely understand your issue.
Q3 can’t fit in your pocket while ricoh can (and my Fujifilm too). But nevertheless  I always have my q3 with me , in my waist bag (peak design) with one more battery and 2 filters in my pocket.
the other sacrifice is the tripod. My previous mini tripod fit in my pocket. But the q3 is too heavy for it.

The Leica mini tripod can easily support it. I use the Leica tripod legs with a MagicBall head (which is a bit heavy, but very easy to adjust). Leica also makes a tripod head.

Long exposure yesterday night with my new Q3. A small tripod should be useful.

Quick poll right after the announcement:

Are you planning to buy the new Leica Q3?

And:

What would most appeal to you about the Q3?

Looking forward to your comments!

Andreas

Keeping the Q2 for the lens.  I am also following the deluge of Q2 sales on eBay. Prices seem to be dropping. You can check the "sold" prices on eBay to see for yourselves: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=leica+Q2+sold+price&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1

But the Q2 is Leica's "gateway drug" camera, so.... I added an M10-R which is sitting at my daughter's house in the US. I'll get the M10-R in August. The taxes in Indonesia kill my spontaneous purchase impulses.

I purchased the Light Lens Lab 35 MM F2 and the Voigtlander F1.0 lenses to go with the M10-R.

My wife wants to know if there is a 12 step addiction program for Leica addicts.

Thank you for this information.
i have just commanded it.

I’d be keen to know how you carry the Leica tripod in the Peak design bag or in your pockets. I have one with the taller of the Leitz ball heads. It’s very good but the odd shape of the legs when folded. I have a 3litre peak design sling and the only way I can carry it is by using the straps to attach it to the underneath of the bag.

It is awkward to carry.  I limit carrying the tripod to times when I know I’ll need it, and then usually in deep pants pockets, or, leave it attached to the camera and use it as a handle, legs collapsed. - It’s a compromise in comfort. Would the shorter head help?
