LeicaBitOfThis Posted July 20, 2023 Share #643 Posted July 20, 2023 An email received today from Leica UK…… Dear valued customer, We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during your wait for the highly anticipated Leica Q3 to be back in stock online. We have experienced overwhelming demand for this exceptional product, which has far surpassed our expectations. This has resulted in a substantial number of registrations on our notification list. As you may know, to maintain the quality and craftsmanship that goes into our products we can only produce a certain number of units per month, globally. Therefore, to ensure fair distribution of the Leica Q3, we are now implementing a new approach for our Online Store. We will be holding a periodical draw from those who have signed up on the notification list, until further notice. Our team will then contact those who have been selected to share the next steps for purchase. Please note that if you are not selected in this particular draw, there will be other opportunities for you to be selected in subsequent draws. This way, every customer who has expressed interest will have an equal opportunity to obtain the Leica Q3. We take this time to thank you for being a part of the Leica community. To ensure you are fully up to date with Leica activities please register here. If you have not used our Q system before you might be interested in our Q Experience via our Akademie. We look forward to serving you with exceptional products and services in the future.

There's no avoiding the tax for me. B&H was actually more expensive because they round the tax up a little higher I guess. I'm talking like... $1-6, but still. Weird but I got my x100V in way less time than it has taken thus far for the Q3 and I ordered it after the Q3 as a stop gap since I sold my Q2 on launch day. My understanding is it takes some semblance of communication from the manufacturer before they make the decision to pull it from pre-orders so I'm still hopeful I'll see mine sometime in Aug/Sep from B&H. Their support is second to none IMO after the sale so this has not put me off to B&H as much as it has to Leica. Too much hate for a quality reseller honestly. Don't have the luxury of a local camera store in my area.

ShrewWithPurpose Posted July 22, 2023 Share #652 Posted July 22, 2023 I played the LeicaUSA bingo and won. To be delivered on Monday. So excited. I didn't ask at the time, but wondering if the charging grip is only available when the camera is available.? Should I play that bingo also?

rayansb Posted July 22, 2023 Share #655 Posted July 22, 2023 I got a chance today to play with the Sony A7R V, it's an impressive camera! My local bank is offering a 20 percent discount on any Sony purchases which would make buying the A7R V a literal steal! I know it's an interchangeable lens camera but the value for the money is substantial and I can get it today! B&H just told me they have no idea on when the Q3 will ship. I'm seriously contemplating canceling the order and just buying the A7R V, what do you think, guys? I have a trip to Japan this September and I was hoping the Q3 would have arrived for it. 1

What other cams do you own? Do you need 60mp? Have you tried buying from Leica themselves? Before I got my Q3 I traveled to Italy for 2 weeks. The Q2 was more than adequate the whole time I was there and that was my main camera. The A7R5 is a nice cam, one I own. If you check the Q3 image thread from many weeks back I did a rough comparison of the Q3 with the R5/25mm Zeiss Batis. Similar results but the Q3 is a lot more pleasurable to carry. I’m actually thinking the same same thing, except with the 24mm 1.4 GM which is very close to the 28mm 1.7 as the 28mm is really 26mm. 2mm real world difference. The 1.4 will give me better low light and we know the autofocus is much better. I also think the Sony will be sharper than the Leica in the corners especially when matched to equal f stops. It’s taking Leica 2 months to fill 1 hour of orders from B&H on launch day. They are up to 10am now. That means I’m 6 months away at 2PM. I was hopeful things would improve but with Leica’s recent emails to customers they have no sign of improving.

I do own the A7Rv, along with M11 and couple summiluxe and just received the Q3. The A7Rv does not feel so premium and exclusive as the Q3 and especially the M11, but boy is this a machine. AF is in a completely different league than the Q3. The EVF is the biggest and sharpest on the market, all other pale in comparison. Btw, I have put the A7Rv with the 50mm 1.4 GM lens on a scale against the M11 with the 50 Summilux and the weight difference xwas negligible, especialy when you gain AF and stabilization. The GM 24-70GM2 is sensational and there is a 35-150 2-2.8 Tamron Zoom that is also great, albeit heavy. Q3 is of course more compact (however you could combine the Sony with a compact prime) but in terms of IQ I think the A7Rv is comparable and way more flexible. And you might buy a Q3 later to complement the A7RV if you still lust after it. Just my 2 cts. Edited July 22, 2023 by adrianh 1

I'm seriously contemplating canceling the order and just buying the A7R V, what do you think, guys? I have a trip to Japan this September and I was hoping the Q3 would have arrived for it. I own the Sony A7rV as well as the Q2M, M10-R, SL2-S. The A7rV is a fantastic camera that can handle very compact depending on the lens you use. The 24GM is my favorite lens and I would highly recommend it as it’s sharp while still giving you character. However there are a few other options that are also great like the Samyang 24mm f1.8 which is extremely light and compact and the Sigma 24mm f2 DG DN which has an aperture ring and nice build and optics. All three of these options are close to the 28 Summilux on the Q3 because the 28 on the Q’s are really closer to a 26. Additionally you have the same sensor resolution with the ability to shoot in MRAW and SRAW like the Q3. It’s not as compact but pretty close when shooting with small primes on the Sony. The Sony A7rV has really good color and I’ve matched Leica and Sony photos before when using them both for shoots. I have a suspicion that the A7rV’s sensor is the one in the M11 and Q3, but it’s just a hunch. If you need a camera now, and want the closest experience to the Q3 as you can depending on your priority of size/ergonomics or resolution and image quality, I would seriously consider the A7rV or a Q2 for your upcoming travels! Cogito Posted July 23, 2023 Share #660 Posted July 23, 2023 Los Angeles, California. Leaving tomorrow for a week at the big general aviation fly-in at Oshkosh, WI, and at a whim stopped by the Leica store to see where I was in line (ordered on launch day, I was well over #100.) Salesman looked at the computer and said I was now #1 and would be getting a call on Monday when new cameras are expected to arrive. I know I should be pleased, but in the back of my mind this seems a little coincidental, wonder if I’d stopped by earlier in the week I might have gotten a camera to take on this great photo opportunity.
