Since I have only handled a Q2 for a moment several years ago and not a Q3, it is appealing to buy from a seller with a more lenient return option. Crutchfield has up to 60 days and will do a full refund with a low shutter count (under 300). With buying through the Leica US website, if you open the box there is 15% restock charge. However, if I can snag one via Leica it could be much sooner and I doubt that I won't be thrilled with it. Is anyone else going through similar thoughts with selecting a dealer? Also, with all the talk on avoiding sales tax it makes me happy to live in a no sales tax state. Especially for big ticket items including vehicles. The Leica return policy is unfriendly to say the least. I guess the good news at the moment is that you could almost certainly sell it secondhand and recoup everything you spent including taxes. Restock of 15% adds up to around $900, I doubt too many people would be all that keen on that. Of course the problem with Crutchfield, B&H, etc is actually getting a Q3 from them any time soon seems pretty daunting.

I would never order from them just based on that. What if I don’t love my new $6,000 camera? Really? I agree the way the market is it can be sold easy, but that doesn’t last forever. I guess I’ll wait for my order from another retailer.

Reputable retailers should not resell returned products as new. Edited July 11, 2023 by SrMi

I sold returns as open box items. Returns made up a very small percentage of sales, I didn’t want to punish customers for not liking a product. Obviously you’ll have people who buy it just to rent it, but you can’t punish honest people for others actions. Actually one of the first things I did to increase sales was remove the restocking fees. And it worked, and the amount of returns we got never went up either. Thanks for ray of hope. Judging from the success of some who ordered from other shops in June, I’m beginning to think that despite Miami’s excellent marketing and educational presence (e.g. Reddotforum) they don’t seem to get the allocations that BH and other Leica sellers do. Unless they received a hundred preorders in the first 19 minutes.

Well, no, it's not typical to charge a restock fee. Of course some do, but most retailers do not.
Bobt Posted July 11, 2023 Share #567 Posted July 11, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Did anyone have any luck snagging one off of Leica's website today? Nothing showed up for me with a bunch of refreshes around 2:00 PM EDT.
petereprice Posted July 11, 2023 Share #568 Posted July 11, 2023 I just tried as well at 2pm EDT and no luck. Refreshed for 10 minutes. It seems there’s no predictive pattern.

brickftl Posted July 13, 2023 Share #570 Posted July 13, 2023 YIPPEE - I've been logging onto Leica USA several times/day every week day, and each time the Q3 page says "on backorder - notify me". About 30 minutes ago (1:00 on 7/13) I did my routine checking on that page, and this time the page said "add to cart". I clicked on that, and immediately completed the transaction using 2 business day delivery. Hopefully it will arrive Monday. SUGGESTION: if you are one of the people constantly checking the Leica USA site, I did what I was advised a month ago by one of the people there - I created a login profile including adding my credit card as payment method, and also inserting billing and shipping addresses. By doing so, it enabled me to complete the transaction rapidly. It was explained to me that multiple people can add the available camera to their cart, but that the first person to complete the transaction gets it while the other people fiddling around inserting credit card and addresses won't be able to complete their transactions.

Congrats! I was online at 1:00 and did many refreshes and never showed available to order. Again, probably only a handful came in like last week. Enjoy! What that reminds me is that wait lines at various retailers are likely to shrink as people like me with multiple orders cancel after getting the Q3 or just have buyer's remorse which I'm seeing some of. Same exact scenario here although I got my confirmation email at 1:13 PM, so it seems they lasted a bit longer this time. I assume there are still people in here using python scripts to get stock alerts and who would have also jumped on this, so curious to know how many cameras are actually released in these punctual batches... I'm going to wait until I get a shipping confirmation to cancel B&H but as you mentioned, hopefully this will shorten the wait of those who decide or have to stick with B&H. Miltz Posted July 14, 2023 Share #577 Posted July 14, 2023 I called B&H today to get an update. They have zero updates at this time. Leica hasn’t given them any correspondence. I’m going to cancel my order. If they said we get 1-3 cameras a week, some kind of info I would be okay with that, or when they are getting a shipment and how far along I am on this list. But they have zero info. And the fact that Leica.com is selling cameras on their website weekly while people like me who ordered in launch day can’t even get any kind of estimate… clearly Leica is prioritizing smaller retailers and their own site. How can they release cameras on their website for sale when people who ordered on May 25th can’t get a camera. It makes zero sense. They are clearly not filling orders first come first serve. 1

Yeah I totally agree. People are on several waiting lists at several retailers and everyone is saying it’s months out, and then inventory just crops up randomly on the website. I’ve been refreshing the website on and off every day for two weeks and not been able to secure one. I have several preorders at large and small resellers but none of them have any information. I’m considering just picking up a Q2 and revisiting getting a Q3 next year and when the dust has settled and the initial rush has died down.

They truly have no clue. I was a first day order too. Just cancelled it. Been told it would come middle of this month. Now it's 'open ETA'. I can't be bothered and won't order from this huge dealer again. I know getting it directly from Leica can be frustrating too, but at least there is a chance!
