I am one of those more than happy with the 28mm lens, and also content with seeing framelines and a wider picture. My reason for this is not because of a wish for a reangefinder experience, but because I rarely find myself choosing the actual framed area in for my final image. In Lightroom, as often as not, I will select a larger or smaller crop. I find it very handy to see the full 28mm image in the EVF, with all the scene elements, knowing that I have plenty of flexibility to adjust composition later.

I do agree, though, that having the option to see the zoomed in frame in the EVF is very desirable, and I hope they do it with a firmware upgrade (together with my other wish, to remove the 30 minute video recording limit).

Nice to see a bit of enthusiasm for the Ricoh GR3 on here. I got one of those three years ago as a pocket camera. Ended up using it far, far more than I imagined I might. You can make stunning A2 prints from it, and it's fast and intuitive in operation. I still use my Leica M cameras, but I don't go anywhere without the GR3.

*Edit* - while I'm on, where are Leica's slick promotional videos of photographers using the Q3? Only YouTube bloggers reviewing the camera so far.

I sold my Q2 when I got my M11. I’m contemplating picking up a Q3 as an additional camera option.

If you do get the Q3, image comparisons with Daylight WB between the two cameras would be very much appreciated. I know that for DNGs it doesn’t matter at the but I have the impression that the Q3 generates more yellowish looking files with the Daylight WB setting.

A Q3 equipped with a 50mm lens would, though.

A bit hard to use as an universal camera without a wideangle option, though.

Well, a 28mm camera is hardly a universal camera. I do not buy the cropping concept. Sure, it can be done out of necessity, but if you shoot the majority of your photos between 50 and 90 like I do, a 28mm lens + crop is not what you really want, and currently there is no compact or lightweight Leica option since the CL demise.
it is pretty much forcing me to look at the Fujis more and more

The problem is the phrase “ I do not buy into the cropping concept “. That is exactly what this camera was designed for.
So yes, this is not a camera for your use. A 50 mm lens on this camera would cut you off from the minority of your photographs  For those you would have to carry a second camera or use your smartphone  This camera gives you a 28-100 mm zoom @ 1.7 in a single compact package, with fantastic image quality and an ability to frame as you like at home

For the photographers that buy it for the use that Leica intended it is brilliant. For instance travel or street. Or simply a compact and light high-quality solution for everyday use. It is one of the few cameras where a high pixel count makes sense for 90% of photographers.

I had the original Q and I'm definitely happy with what I am seeing of the Q3 (I'm also relieved they went with a vertical tilt screen and not a flip screen). Can I afford one? Sadly not anytime soon, but I miss the Q a great deal, and I say that having never been much of a 28mm or cropping person. I've always considered it a very versatile camera and the Q3 seems to be a further evolution of its capabilities.

I agree that the Q series is intended, if not as a universal camera, then as the most versatile camera possible: wide range digital zoom, now a wide range of image pixels, macro, weather sealing, video.  Thus the 28mm lens makes perfect sense: you CAN use it easily for 35 and 50 and, at a pinch, with AI resizing, 75 and 90. A 50mm lens cuts down that versatility*, as does removing video. I doubt that Leica will take that route.

*I have no problem with Leica making a 50 version as well, as long as it doesn’t divert investment from the more versatile version.

Sorry, I disagree. Buying a full frame camera to shot most of the photos at 5mp / 90mm is not efficient, in my opinion. A 50mm equipped Q would give me my most used focal length as a baseline and enough to crop to 90mm. And that's the thing, I would probably buy a 28mm Q as a second / wide companion for the 50mm Q.

Basically Leica could sell me two cameras, but at the moment I'm not buying not even one and I'm looking at other brands. (I do have my SL2-S though)

Very true. But that is not a failing of the Q/Q2/Q3. It just means that the camera you want is not on the market. What are the alternative brands you're looking at?

I do have a Ricoh GRIII, so adding a GRIIIx would make sense. But I'm mostly looking at Fuji since it would give me a ILCE, good quality lenses, including native Voigtlanders, all in a compact and light body, see the photo below with the 35mm F2 and the 50mm F2, and I would retain the whole sensor resolution without significants (for me) compromises.

Then why are you looking at a Q and complaining? It’s not an ILC camera and it doesn’t have a 50mm lens.

Because I did own a Q2 for a while, and like I said 4 posts above that you clearly did not read, that I'd buy a 50mm Q in a heartbeat + a 28mm Q as a companion body if only a Q with 50mm was available.

I have both the MP, M11 and the Q2M. Being a long time 35mm focal length user, I have really appreciated the amount of matter available from the 28mm of the Q2M. I don’t mind cropping and find that I use the full 28mm frame as a finished product more often than I anticipated (“if your pictures aren’t good enough, you aren’t close enough” has applied) So much so that I now carry a 28mm on the M11 most of the time for color shots…

Just my two cents.

Keep in mind that with a Fuji, you are not using ALL of the Q3 sensor, only the APS-C part, lol.

Put it on the wish list for the Q4. The thread is here already.

Precisely. This camera is not for people who relate quality of a picture to sensor size or pixel count. Not that a 60 MP camera lacks much in that department.

I read it. As you already know it’s unlikely to happen. You keep answering a question that wasn’t asked.
