If you search around the forum, apparently the body shell of the MP is slightly different from earlier M bodies so the older baseplates will not fit.

Will an M4 (or other) base plate fit on an MP, and enable the use of IXMOO cassettes with the MP?

I just tried the baseplate from my M4-P, the MP baseplate fits the M4-P but the M4-P baseplate is too tight to go on the MP. BTW the MP baseplate is a very snug (tight) fit on the MP anyway but I'm not prepared to force the M4-P baseplate.

The base plate is not the problem: it's the fact that an IXMOO cassette will not fit inside the body of an M7, MP, or MA.

IXMOO will work on any M6 with the correct (i.e. early M6 or M4, M4-2, M4-P) baseplate.

Addendum:  the M6 2022, which is based on the MP chassis, will not fit IXMOO either.

Thanks very much for confirming this, Topsy.

that’s a shame

- considering  when Leitz discontinued IXMOO, I don't think so

- how many still use those ?

- I do have some IXMOO, finding bulk film (10m/30m) to homeloading is quite a challenge

- now we know that these new M will not accept them, that is (was for me) good to know

- the change was in many steps, M6 body accepted and later has no baseplate to accept them ( I don't know why ),people can do it with older M beseplate,

then new M body (about 2002 ?) went further with film crate shallower, too small for the IXMOO

- more than twenty years later, is it really a shame if these  Ms don't accept those discontinued cassettes ?

- happily we can still find some Leica which can use those, just not new anymore

I just don't see removing the option of using IXMOO as being an advantage.  It's just a limit, with nothing added in exchange (except in the M7 - inclusion of a DX reader).

The IXMOO is the pinnacle of reloadable cartridge design, infinitely superior to the plastic tat that followed. I have no difficulty finding bulk rolls here in the UK. Many (many) people still use them. So, yes, it is a shame that they are not useable with the MP.

YES 👍

or M1, MD, MDa, M3, M4, M4-x, M6 (some may need another baseplate).

...

As I'm positive, I remember the closest to MP ( I know not the same M of course ) with benefit of more comfort wind/rewind is M6.

I just try to mimic using IXMOO on/in my M6 Classic 0.85 swapping the baseplate from my black M4.

Fitting the swapped baseplates is just fine (same as I've done so long ago, for real).

That is, the body of this 1998 made M6 accepted IXMOO, but not the original baseplate.

Solutions exist ...just need searching a bit.
