So I just tried my 28mm Elmarit Asph and it wouldn't click into place. Thus I walked down to my local Leica Store and we tried a bunch of other 6 bit coded lenses, non of them would lock. Whereas no problem with old lenses.

Does anybody have that issue, or know what could be causing it. Or is this a one of?

Six bit coding has nothing to do with the fit of a lens.  But it does indicate that the tolerance of the adapter does not match the more precise fit of newer lenses. Try another adapter. Your Leica Store should have solved this for you. You ARE using the Leica adapter, aren’t you ?

Leica CL the film one, no adapter. This is the film subforum isn't it? I tried 8 uncoded lenses, those worked no problem, and non of the 5 6-bit coded lenses clicked into place. So there has to be a connection. Maybe something got a bit bigger like you said.

No NOTHING has changed about the actual mount, only some inconsequential markings that don't interfere with the 'click'. I know I'm at risk of annoying you further, but are you sure you are keeping your finger OFF the lens release button when you mount the lens?

Yea of course, but good thought.

This is the film camera forum, so I expect he has the film Leica / Minolta CL, so no adapter needed. I've had no such problems with my CL.

Okay so it seems to be my CL. I guess I have to figure out, what to fix

Unfortunately this seems to be one those times were the manufacturing tolerances of your lens mount on your CL, and the lens mounts of modern Leica lenses are off in the exact worst amounts.

I will see, if it is possible shave down whatever is blocking the lens from moving further.

So for anyone who MIGHT have a similar issue, I figured it out, by removing the lens mount, which is fairly easy on a CL, actually the whole camera is really friendly to work on, but I digress.

On the attached image you can see that one of the flanges has a small unevenness or dent if you will. On old lenses the tolerance is big enough for them to glide over it, whereas with newer lenses they would sit too tightly and this bump stops them. Now I am probably the one of a handful of persons to encounter this, BUT who knows.

Good find!  Are you able to fix the issue?

Yes, thanks for asking 🙂 I just took some sandpaper to it and smoothed out to bump, put everything back together and now it works like a charm. While I was at it, I recalibrated the rangefinder.

For anyone wondering about the tape, this blocks the frame lines, but not the light meter and shutter speed display, thus "cleaning up" the busy viewfinder.
