50SL isn't very intimate, and also it can be a bit of a bulk when on holiday.

An m10 would be better here.

Where are all those Mf advocates who say Af is not needed?

I haven't extensively used as range finder, so it's early days.

Can I suggest then you look at the TL2 (or the rumoured next Leica that has the same sensor) as a second body for your holidays and more relaxed moments?Together with the 35 lux TL you will have a nice combo for more intimate portraits, you can also get one (or more!) of the zooms for travelling, and the benefit is that you can also use your SL lenses on it as a crop body and then your 90-280 for example becomes 135-420 which maybe useful in some occasions (concerts?). And you still have AF. And, of course you can also use M lenses with it if you fancy.

The 90-280 becomes 135-420 on the SL as well, if APSc mode is selected on the SL 601's menu.

The 35 1.4 TL is superb.  Frankly, for about the same amount of $, one could sell one's 50SL and then purchase a pre-owned 35 1.4TL  (for AF at 50mm ) plus a 50mm 1.4 summilux.

Of course but not at the same resolution...

I have heard mixed commentary as to whether the APSc mode on the SL produces a 'better' image than it does on the T (maybe the TL now wins out?).

My local Leica shop's rep was of the opinion that the SL would produce a better APSc image than the T would. The conversation was very non-specific beyond that.

Interesting, I will check it out.

I can't imagine why this would be.

Me neither, but I remember a video on youtube sometime ago that discussed a similar question, I will see if I can find it

Edit found it, but I cannot guarantee that what he says is valid...

With 3.1 it’s much faster. It’s not any quieter but I don’t recall it being noisy before.

Tracking is poor because the SL continuous AF is poor. It’s probably better than before because the AF is faster, but still is not usable for me.

Let's wake this thread up again.

With 3.1 the AF has definitely improved.

Greg,

I'm following your work on Instagram, and you are really making the most of your SL50. Keep it going!

Tommy.

Hi Tommy, great to be connected with you on here and IG and thanks for your kind words. No one I know that's close to me really understands of appreciates my photography. My wife and brother just look at me when I show them my work and go 'meh'; in fact, my brother now just flat out says he's not interested and I shouldn't bother because much as he loves me, he just doesn't have an appreciation for photography (at least not the kind I do). My wife's a bit more understanding; she looks at me and says 'tell me what you want me to say' :D

my point is that whenever anyone comments positively, my heart really does give a little flutter. It's bad because I know that it's the dopamine effect and it's addictive but still.......

Here's another one from the weekend:
