Can you point out a compact autofocus Leica camera with a 50mm lens currently in production?

Why would I need to? The CL will continue to function for years to come and the TL35 lens is outstanding. It’s no different from continuing to use a 5 year old M camera. They are both fully functional and people hang onto them and buy them on the pre-owned market.

I already have a 40mm Summicron in M mount.

Wilson, I meant a Q with a summicron 40, in case a summilux would be too bulky (I don't need a 40mm in M mount, as the framelines are not adapted).

You would have to redesign both lenses to remove the lens mount and build in the shutter mechanism. Not straightforward.

Too expensive to be worth it.

Probably the reason why they keep sticking to the 28mm...unfortunately (at least for me)

They're not going to make a 35 or a 50 Q. The frame line/crop option bump already allows you to "shoot at those lengths" and the increase in resolution only improves that ability. A 35 or 50 Q would cannibalize from M sales, and having multiple Q versions with different focal lengths makes zero sense. Won't happen, they'd be competing with themselves and they can't afford it.

Because it's ok for people that have one already, but absolutely a no-go for anybody looking to buying into the camera today, because the camera has no future. What is going to happen when the battery dies or starts to malfunction? There would be no replacement and the lenses will be useful only as a doorstopper.

That’s a lot of assumptions. Battery supplies for the CL are good - multiple vendors, as they are used in other cameras. Now if you’re talking exclusive batteries for the M11 then you’re right to be concerned.

Not really. For people that shot mostly 50mm doesn't make sense to buy a full frame 28mm Q then crop all the time.

As for the cannibalization, M and Q are two completely different cameras. The M is a manual focus rangefinder with an OVF, the Q is autofocus, no rangefinder, EVF. It's like saying that a racing bicycle is the same as an electric bicycle and they cannibalize each other.

I am less convinced about the CL's long term reliability. Mine has already been replaced twice. Once for a mechanical fault (the retaining screw for the lens release button came undone and dropped inside the camera, jamming the lens in place) and once for an electronic fault - nothing happened on switch on.

Sample of 1. And no other camera has mechanical or electrical failures?

A Q 35 or Q 50 would likely cannibalize the SL2 or 3. And since Leica are already having to sell the SL2/S at significant discount that would not be a smart move.

SL2s discounted because they are not what the market wants!

Small cameras and lenses for me.

Sold the SL2-S as it was too heavy and I was never going to be prepared to carry two of them in the same tradition of carrying to Ms.

If Leica don't provide, I will move to Fujifilm for all my AF needs.
