marchyman Posted March 11, 2023 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I see charging questions have been covered in the past, but none of those threads match what I'm seeing. Got my M11 this afternoon. It came with 1.5.something installed and the battery at about 20%. I charged the battery up to 80% in camera without issue and then used the FOTOS app to update the firmware. After a couple of hours of playing, setting up menus, taking my first test shot of a cluttered desk, etc., the battery was down to 60-something percent. Plugged USB cable into camera to refresh battery... no flashing bottom blue light. Tried several cables and power sources. No flashing blue light. That includes using the same cable and power source I used to charge the battery earlier. The battery is not charging in camera. At about 55% I moved the battery to the external charger where it sits now. It appears to be charging. Any suggestions? I checked to make sure USB charging is set to ON in the menus. Other that playing and setting various options the big difference is the firmware. Anyone else having in-camera charge issues with 1.6.1?
Advertisement Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Hi marchyman, Take a look here Another in-camera charging question (1.6.1 firmware). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SrMi Posted March 11, 2023 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2023 If the battery is not charging in the camera, turn the camera on and then off. This should start the charging process. I feel that the latest firmware has fixed that issue. Did you use Leica’s cable and USB brick? Congratulations on your M11!

SrMi Posted March 11, 2023 Share #4 Posted March 11, 2023 Just now, elmars said: Not here as far as I can see. Hmpf. I noticed that the camera starts charging even though the light is not blinking. My M11 charging cable is always connected to a wattmeter or has it integrated into the cable.
elmars Posted March 11, 2023 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2023 Sorry, I was not precise. I can only tell if the camera is charging by whether the green LED in the bottom of the M11 is blinking or not. Of course, it may be that current flows even without flashing.
davidmknoble Posted March 11, 2023 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2023 Fresh batteries typically need to be charged to 100% and discharged a few times to get maximum life. After that, because lithium ion batteries don’t really have a ‘memory’ charging and discharging become more level. I’d charge it to 100% a few times and use it till it is red on the battery level. Just my thoughts…
marchyman Posted March 11, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted March 11, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) The battery charged to 100% using the supplied cable and charge stand. It did not charge in camera after installing 1.6.1 and doing all of the other things one does when receiving a new camera. I'll try charging in camera again once the battery charge level drops an appropriate amount. As noted, I tried several different cables and power sources (but not the power source that came with the camera), include the power/cable that worked when I first plugged in the camera. I tried cycling power, plugging in the cable when the camera was off, plugging in the cable when it was on, and all of the other iterations mentioned in earlier threads about charging in camera. If it doesn't work next time I try in camera charging I'll make sure my configs are exported, reset the camera, and try to charge both before and after importing my configs. Maybe that will tell me something...
geotrupede Posted March 11, 2023 Share #8 Posted March 11, 2023 So I had all sort of random issues with charging, now with 1.6.1 and one new cable specific for charging and with a large charger all works fine. There are many variables but basically you need to: connect cable, then switch on with the LED visible, the green light starts lighting, then you can switch off and should flicker slowly. if this is the case it is working. if not, then the issue could be the cable or the charger itself. the charger supplied does not seem to have enough power output to go, so I am using another. obviously the battery is ok with the charger. However, I don’t have a blue light either. My charge-indicating light is green. Reset your camera to original settings - fully, and see if after removing the battery, formatting your card, turning it off and on, clicking your heels three times…. Then try it again. "Blue" was a case of false memory. The light is green. In my case the battery did not charge. I will do as you suggest -- skipping the heel clicking, though -- when the battery next needs charging. marchyman Posted March 25, 2023 Author Share #11 Posted March 25, 2023 Follow up... I reset the camera, re-linked it to my phone, and re-built the profile I use. Charging via USB is working again with the Green LED (which looks almost teal in the light of my office, thus my mis-remembering it as blue) happily blinking away.
