I now own a one off Martin Parr M6TTL!

So what do I do now with my M6TTL? Last night I went to a free lecture at my local University. Martin Parr was talking about his work and his influences. Great lecture - after the talk, all the local students asked him to sign their work etc.. Afterwards, there was the opening of a national open student drawing competition, so I hung around with a glass of wine and shot some frames with my M6TTL. As MP was leaving, I wondered what I could ask him to autograph. Conveniently Leica had left the top plate of my M6TTL free of engravings, especially for MP to sign. So out with my ever present Sharpie and there you go! Now I don't know whether to retire this body and use my M2 instead!

Suggestions please,

Congratulation Charlie!

Just order a new topplate from leica and keep the signed one in a safe place, or sell this M6 as a special "Signature model", where? Japan....:D

If I knew who Martin Parr is or was, I'd be impressed... I think.

Mark,

Martin Parr is a Magnum photographer, with a characteristic quirky kitsch style. He's one of the few photographers, who has a truly unique signature style. He seemed a very nice guy too - quirky in real life as well - a collector of Margaret Thatcher ephemera (as he couldn't believe that anyone would sell any) and apparently the owner of the world's largest collection of Saddam Hussein watches (after Saddam)!

Here's the link to his website.

Best wishes,

Now really Mark - you do don't you:D:D

He's the Hogarth of the 20th century - touches our nerves where it twinges

Get one of your radiographers to etch it in Charlie. I'm sure they have the technology if my Radiologist friend is to be believed. ..before they give up film altogether.:)

Radiagraphers are chemical free zones these days, cept for the theraputics. I cant even crack the lid on a bottle of fixer round the house without a disparaging "Are you at it again for gods sake. How long will you be?"

OK, Gents, if I were to get it etched, what would you suggest - acid etching and in fill with paint or laser etching. Any ideas about where to send it apart from Leica? I'm not even sure if Leica offer personal engraving outside the a la carte system any more.

Not sure whether to sell or keep! If I might get a good premium for it, then I'd gladly sell and get a MP plus whatever (if anything). I have no idea what premium inscrutable collectors might pay for unique items like this.

Pity it wasn't a Leica MP

What's the point in engraving it? You could engrave anyones signature into your top plate. Stick it on e bay with a decent reserve and see if anyone bites.

I doubt it has much if any additional value as an autographed item - Martin Parr is a working photographer and I assume he attends numerous exhibitions/signings. When he retires though.........

Now if it had provenance as one of Martin Parr's own working cameras, and he signed it, and he met with an unfortunate end THEN it might be worth something special.

Otherwise, I think you'll need to put it away for a while to make it really valuable.

ps. you might want to give that lens a clean :D

Graham,

The lens is a bit dirty, but at least it gets used. With the old 35 lux, keeping the front element clean is a nightmare. The 12504 hood leaves a gap if you have filter. Anyway, I can't find one at any reasonable money. I just shoot it bare.

As for the camera, it's funny isn't it. I only did it spontaneously, thinking an autograph on the top plate would be a bit different to putting it in a book. Now it's just getting in the way of me using it. I'll just have to revert to the M2.

you‘re lucky that you dindn‘t let him sign any of your wife‘s body parts....

(btw. I don‘t think the camera is worth anything more than any used M6... try to get elvis autograph on todays newspaper....)
