jacopo129 Posted March 2, 2023 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, browsing around I read that both Leica ITOOY and 12585 hoods would work with this lens. Does one perform better than the other or is it just up to personal taste? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Hi jacopo129, Take a look here hood on elmar m 50 2.8 first version. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted March 2, 2023 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2023 Well, I don't see any differences as far as effectiveness against flare is concerned. The ITOOY is slimmer, so you'll see it only at the lower left corner of the finder. The 12585 covers more of the finder's field, but as it is vented, this will not be much of a nuisance. If you use other lenses, e.g. 50mm Summicron or 35mm the 12585 will be the better choice as it was made for them as well. The ITOOY has the "advantage" of being the original choice for the Elmar with M-bayonet.
Pyrogallol Posted March 2, 2023 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2023 ITOOY hoods seem to vary in size. Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted March 2, 2023 Share #4 Posted March 2, 2023 The barrel of the Elmar 50/2.8 (11112) rotates when focusing so the vented parts of the 12585 hood don't remain at the same place at all focus distances. It is the default hood of the lens since 1964 or truer date though IINW.
