Alright falks!

I have currently got a 28mm Lux and Elmarit and recently bought the new 35mm 1.4 FLE II.

I use the 28 Elmarit for everything street photography and then I need a fast lens for everything else /  the only lens to carry when traveling.

I bought the 35lux FLE II convinced I was going to sell the 28lux but after all I am too much in love with it.

The 35 has the advantage of being smaller and lighter (not by much though when lens hood is off, as per the photo below) and I can frame much better with the RF.

So with Elmarit staying, which one of the other two should go?

God, I am lost!

If you can’t tell by my username, I love the 28mm focal length. Like, love it. That being said, I’d actually opt to sell the 28mm Summilux over the 35. Why? In low light, your 28mm Elmarit is still as “fast” on camera as a 50mm Summicron (1/30th on 28 handholding vs 1/60th on 50mm). Many people find that fast enough for most photography. On the other hand, the 35 Lux is probably the most versatile lens to own; perfect for portraits or for general photography; a lens like this is one Annie Liebovitz would use for portraiture (35mm), and you still get all the benefit of a “closer” wide angle, so a more natural rendering over the 28. Plus, if you sell the 28 Lux, that’s a lot of bones to go on a trip with.

Thanks! Agreed, especially on the M11 (which I am shooting with) the 28m Elm is still VERY capable!

Do you need the money? Why sell either when you will likely just end up buying them back at some point? Even if you can sell one of them for what you paid, there's no guarantee the price won't be higher the next time you decide to buy it.

What @hdmesa said.

If you are between a financial rock and hard place, I could see selling one lens.  If that is not the case, keep all three.

Digital M camera bodies can come and go, but I have never traded away an M lens without ending up regretting it.

I second what he said , I sold the Elmirit after I bought the 28 Lux, now I regret it. Love the New FLE. I love the 28 Lux and I miss the 28 Elmirit asph.

Unless you need the money right away, I would wait a little longer. Perhaps ask yourself which focal length you envision  using as your main lens. If it’s 28, then ask yourself if you need the Lux or if the Elmarit will suffice. If I loved the 28, these lenses might serve different purposes for me and I would keep them both.

Do you need to sell a lens ? If so it seems the 28mm Lux is the one. Although you love it, you will probably using the 28mm elmarit more based on what you said

If you don't, then don't

If it was me, I would sell the Elmarit :) but it isn't me ....

I do not feel qualified to tell another photographer what he or she “should” do, but, my personal belief is that a 35mm f/1.4 lens is a fundamental necessity, for my shooting, to the extent that I have acquired one for each of the three camera systems that I have used.

Personally, while I find 28mm lenses useful for utilitarian purposes, such as when I “must” get a usable image, I have never been particularly inspired by the 28mm focal length.

I hate selling lenses. Is it possible to keep your Summilux-M 28mm?

Well there's what's PRACTICAL and then there's what just FEELS right - you have to decide that for yourself. I've had the 28 lux, 28 cron, 28 summaron, and the 35 lux (also the 35/1.4 distagon). Of all those I would sell the 28 lux last of all, but I'd also try to keep the summaron. But 28 is my favorite field of view. I think the rendering of the 28 lux is nicer than that of the 35 lux, better bokeh and without the strange wavy focal plane.

Definitely keep the 35mm because it’s essential. The 28mm Summilux is one of Leica’s best so it’ll be a shame to sell it.  I bought my f1.4 lenses in the film days when that extra stop was a huge advantage but now shooting digital they are not getting used and I prefer tiny lenses but I won’t sell them because I am pretty sure I’ll just buy another one eventually. It’s a curse.

What seems unneeded today is often missed tomorrow :)  If you don't mind the idea of rebuying one (presumably 28 Lux) at a later date, then go ahead and sell it.  But if you think your copy is particularly good and/or if the focus calibration is very well matched with M's, I'd think twice about selling it.
