Since the 35mm Summilux ASPH FLE (11675) is larger than the Summicron (11674), does it make sense that it's also lighter?

Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH:

Dimensions 2.2" x 1.8" / 56 x 46 mm

Weight 11.3 oz / 320 g

Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH:

Dimensions 2.1" x 1.4" / 53 x 35.7 mm

Weight 12 oz / 340 g

It's not. The 35 summicron silver used to be brass, but is now aluminum. Plenty of places, like B&H, still list the old brass weight incorrectly. The aluminum version is more like 280g, same as the black. The lux weight you're looking at is already aluminum.

I compiled the following while preparing to purchase M 35mm. I ended up with the Summarit and APO lenses.

Weights for black anodized taken from Leica Technical Specifications. The FLE's are noted as approximate.

LENS L D W Filter Size Part #

Leica 35 2.5 34 mm 51 mm 220 g 39 mm 11680
Leica 35 2.0 35.7 mm 53 mm 252 g 39 mm 11673
Leica 35 APO 40.9 mm 43 mm 320 g 39 mm 11699
Leica 35 1.4 FLE  46 mm 56 mm 320 g 46 mm 11663
Leica 35 1.4 FLE II 46 mm 58 mm 338 g 46 mm 11726
