Somehow I feel the amount of dots is not everything. I very much preferred the EVF on my SL2-S over the one in my A7RV. There are a lot of things the Sony does extremely well (and much better), but the EVF is not as impressive as I would expect from 9M.

The EVF is just the screen. Leica's EVF optics are superior to Sony's, therefore an SL3 with a 9.XM dot EVF would look better than the SL2's EVF does. Likewise, an SL3-S EVF at 9.XM dot will look better than the SL2-S does. Compare like with like. I honestly don't care what the Sony EVFs look like – that's irrelevant. I only brought up the A7R5 to prove the point that the 9.XM dot EVF should be something to expect at this price point.

The current Leica evf is what sold me on the system initially.  I like the sl2 and sl2-s viewfinders so much.  I’ve seen the 9k versions by other makes but I can’t see any difference above the Leica which to me still sets the bar.

so more pixels in that dept is not a must have for me.

looking forward to seeing all the other specs in March.

I like the SL2 and SL2-S EVFs very much, too. But don't you agree that if Leica can make their current 5.XM dot EVFs look as good as they do, wouldn't they work the same miracles with a 9.XM dot EVF, leapfrogging the Sony implementations? Imagine the same Leica optics in the EVF but in a 1.0x magnification versus the current 0.78x.

I think prices have already tanked way down.  But it’s a tool not an investment and def tax deductible for pros.  I may double down and buy more sl2 and sl2-s soon at the way they are dropping and they are so capable.

The EVF resolution needs to be no more than at present for a clear view of the scene. What it does need to do is reduce the lag between view and reality to imperceptible levels, including in low light. Given a choice between eliminating perceptible lag and increasing the pixels from the current number, I would take reduced lag any day. More pixels = more lag or more processing power demand for the same lag (and might mean more heat generation).

But I guess it's easier to count pixels than it is to measure lag, so marketing people want the former🤷‍♂️.

I'll take both, thanks. But that is more a limitation of the sensor readout speed, and the 60mp Sony sensor the SL3 will likely have is going to be no champ in that area. It won't be until we get a stacked sensor will we see the lag be reduced substantially. SL3-S perhaps.
