If only that damned sensor issue hadn't occurred. A formidable sword of Damocles thus hangs above our Monochrom CCD use. So just enjoy while it lasts. Mine has already the sensor replaced, but never know when will be the next, I hope never, but we can't say never. I wanted to "replace" it by newer M246, but failed and now even worse, after using them interchangeably for some months, I can't decide which one to keep. Last conclusion, here

Last conclusion, here If your MM1 is working and producing files you like, I'd recommend keeping that one. I had the M246 briefly and in my opinion it couldn't match the quality of the MM1 with the CCD sensor. My MM1 sensor was replaced but the new one was not as good as the original. Brent, I'm curious here, how the replaced sensor is inferior to the original ? In any circonstance or just in demanding situations ? Maybe that's why I seemed not to have same rendering with replaced sensor with my Monochrom, but I admit not finding where are those differences. thebarnman Posted July 23, 2019 Share #2445 Posted July 23, 2019 Does anyone know if there's an issue with the 2nd generation MM? MM1 seems to have more of a film like quality (a bit more grainy or something) I've noticed which is nice, but the 2nd generation's image quality seems to have more of a smooth look to the images. As I wrote, here https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/296008-monochrom-ccd-first-compared-to-m246-cmos/?do=findComment&comment=3773653 The Monochrom CCD file is very nice and very different than the M246's file. Film like grain with CCD ? M246 gives very (too clean for many users, too digital ! ) nice file like very fine grain film from 4x5 (or something big and detailed if you like) 😇 I've been long for choosing one but now I need the two as with film, one grainy and organic while the other is view camera quality in small portable packet. colint544 Posted July 23, 2019 Share #2450 Posted July 23, 2019 Leica fitted the new, corrosion-resistant sensor in my M Monochrom mk1. I haven't noticed a difference over the results I got from the original sensor.

I completely agree and the rumours here that the new sensor is less interesting or whatever should be tested and proven or faded out.
convexferret Posted July 24, 2019 Share #2452 Posted July 24, 2019 The replaced sensors are exactly the same but with a cover glass with a revised coating. It was the original coating that degraded. People will however claim to see differences in almost anything when it suits their narrative.

I also found no difference between the rendering with the original corroded sensor of my M9Monochrom and the replacement sensor --- it remains a special camera. Apologies for not responding. I have essentially left this forum. Answering your question is difficult because my replaced sensor worked fine but just seemed to my eye to not have the same magical qualities of the original. I cannot find any confirmation for this idea or any other difference in my files since I own the MM1 with the old and the new sensor.

Sorry Dk, I don't have action photos for FISE as sport pictures are not my pleasure for years, when I see works of better photographers than myself out there. ... Brent, thanks for what you pointed to. I understand better now why I love Monochrom's pictures of water which has nothing in common with color pictures of same subject (and yet worse with converted color file to b&w).
